Chapter 5

Skye finished marking off the circle outside the diamond shape with chalk on the wooden floor of her bedroom and took her postion directly in the centre. The candlelit room threw off just enough light for Skye to see the words printed in the heavy leather bound book placed delicatly on her crossed legs. Not that it would matter to her very much since every single word had been imprinted in her memory.
There were red candles on three points of the diamond and a thick white candle on the north point. A red and white rope and a dagger lay in the centre of the circle. Lighting the first red candle Skye tied the rope. Lighting the second red candle she cut the rope in to two pieces of equal length. Lighting the third red candle she set alight all four ends of the rope. Lighting the last thick white round candle she placed the rope around the north point of her diamond marking in the shape of a circle. She closed her eyes and outstreched her arms as she began to recite the words from the book.
"Queen of heaven, Queen of hell,
Lend your power unto this spell,
In fire and earth and air and sea,
By light of the moon and sun,
Chant the spell and it be done!"
The flame of the candle expanded suddenly towards the ceiling, singeing Skye's eyebrows as it furiously erupted. Skye felt the energy pulsate through every vein in her body testing her own power. It felt good, like a big rush. Skye couldn't stop smiling. It was if she was on drugs and it felt so powerful, so strong. Just as the power was begining to peak a faint smell of burning touched Skye's nostrils. She wrinkled up her little nose and began sniffing the air around her. "What the!.Oh my god! NO!" Skye began frantically waving her arms in the air, trying to put out the flames. "Please god not the light!" The charred remains of the blue frilly lightshade Skye's mother had recently bought her lay in a pile of ashes on the floor . Only the metel frame protecting a deformed melted lightbulb had survived. "Maybe.." Thought Skye "..Just maybe I should try that spell outside next time!" Grabbing a dustpan and brush she swept the cinders into the dustbin, burying them underneeth some empty crisp packets. "Skye! Your going to be late for school if you don't hurry!" "O.k. mum I'm on my way" Skye replied before opening all of the windows and sraying the room with deodrant, desperatly praying to god that her mother would not discover the mangled light before she had bought a replacement on the way home.
