“Huh? What?”
“Damn it, Nick! What the hell did I tell you last night?”
“Get those two to bed.”
“And I meant separate beds.”
Nick shrugged Kevin off and plopped down back on the couch. “I did put them in separate bunks. AJ was in my bunk on top and she was on the bottom.”
“Then why the hell were they both in the same bunk, naked?”
“Man, How should I know?”
“Do you know who he was with?”
He thought for a moment. “Don’t tell me it was…”
“Yes, it was Kay.”
“If I had known that, I would have put her on her own bus.”
Kevin sank down next to Nick. “What the hell are we going to do?”
“What is there to do? What’s done is done.”
“In case you forgot, she’s only 17 and it was my responsibility to see nothing was going to happen to her. Now there might be a chance she could get pregnant. What the hell am I going to say to her family? ‘Sorry I wasn’t looking after her. She and AJ got drunk one night and they fucked each other. Now she can be pregnant. Bye?’”
“Don’t be so hard on yourself. It wasn’t your fault in the first place,” Brian said as he and Howie also sat down.
“It’s my fault,” Nick said, “I should have made sure who she was in the first place.”
“It’s none of our faults,” Howie said, “because if you think about it, it could have been fate. I mean, there was no way we could have prevented. It was bound to happen sooner or later.”
“I would have wanted the latter,” Kevin mumbled.
“That kind of makes sense. AJ’s sure been getting mighty possessive with Kay. He was threatening to kill our blond the day before.”
“What?!”
“He and I saw you guys walk out the side door yesterday, and then he said that. I also asked what the hell was up with him lately.”
“That’s what I asked Kay when we went out to talk. She said that she’s been having some dreams.”
“That’s what AJ said too. From the look on his face, they weren’t all innocent.”
“I don’t know about that, but she said that the dream might have been linked to one person and she pretty much narrowed it down to two people. AJ and me.”
“It’s linked to AJ. He said he was a king or something.”
“King Alistair and she was Beth.”
“And they were lovers,” Kevin said a matter of factly.
“Why did she think it was you?” Howie asked.
“AJ said that Alistair was a tall blond and heavily built man,” Brian said.
“She also told me that they nearly kissed once, only I barged in on them.”
“So what’s going to happen now?” Kevin asked.
“That’s all up to those two,” Nick said wisely.
