Yoda is the oldest member of the Jedi Council. After the Jedi purge he was 900 years old when he passed into the Force. Yoda was the toughest teacher in the Jedi Temple. Many of his students disliked him for his constant drilling of physical exercise and mental control. Once they left the temple they realized how much they had learned from Master Yoda. Yoda hated reforms. He was a strict believer in Jedi tradition. If someone disagreed about the way to instruct padawans Yoda would just bring up how long he has been training Jedi compared to how long the other had been training Jedi.
Yoda began training a century after the Sith went into hiding. He became a Jedi Master at the age of 100. Yoda trained many Jedi. One named Ikrit, a Kushiban, sacrificed himself during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion after being in suspended animation. The Chu'unthor training ship crashed onto Dathomir when Yoda was approximately six hundred years old. He went to Dathomir to retrieve the vessel with two other Jedi Masters. The trio only angered the Force wielding Dathomirian witches so they left. Yoda later returned to negotiate a settlement. This settlement helped get Yoda appointed to the council.
As the time passed Yoda trained many Jedi. After Ki-Adi-Mundi, Yoda stopped training and became the Temple's staff instructor. He still held classes which taught the youngest students about the unifying Force. Qu Rahn and Obi-Wan Kenobi were two of his graduates. As a member of the council Yoda was able to get a room customized for meditating. It had a fireplace and low ceilings to help create a peaceful meditative state. The only ornaments in the room were stained glass windows which the Jedi Master built by hand.
Yoda shared the title of being a senior member on the council with Mace Windu. He would only really open up around the council members and other distinguished members of the Jedi Order. Yoda had a mischievious personality and liked to play practical jokes. If his students saw him they would not be able to believe their eyes.
Yoda was almost killed in an attack by Xanatos one of Qui-Gon Jinn's former students. He planted a bomb in the Jedi Temple's room of a Thousand Fountains. Yoda was saved by the efforts of Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi when they stopped Xanatos' plan. This is where Yoda became a symbol for the Jedi Order. Yoda never drew his lightsaber unless he had too. During the Yinchorri uprising Yoda fought and killed many Yinchorri. He also killed a Bartokk assassin squad that was trying to destroy the Corulag academy.
During the Battle of Naboo, Yoda meditated often. He could feel that the Force had been set into motion and that something big would happen soon. When Qui-Gon brought Anakin to the council, Yoda questioned the boy thoroughly. He believed that the boy was to old and to dangerous to be trained. Yoda would not allow his training, even though the boy may have been the Chosen One. The Jedi Master agreed to have Anakin trained only at the dying request of Jinn. He would keep an eye on the boy throughout the years.
Yoda began to see that the dark side was near. He began to have trouble seeing the future. With the rediscovery of the Sith and not being able to see an assassination attempt on Senator Amidala, Yoda knew that the dark side was growing. Soon after the assassination attempt, Yoda led the Republic's new clone army to Geonosis to fight the Confederacy. There he also fought Count Dooku. Count Dooku escaped the lightsaber battle and Yoda was unable to defeat the old Jedi. As the Clone War began Palpatine was granted emergency powers which allowed him to declare himself Emperor. Once he did so Yoda's fear came true. Anakin became Darth Vader and joined the Emperor. During the Jedi Purge Yoda escaped to Dagobah. He had left Vader's daughter with Bail Organa and his son with Owen Lars.
On Dagobah, Yoda built a small home. He was one of the few living on the planet. A small group of humans lived their after their ship crashed but they did not bother the Jedi Master. After taking over Jorj Car'das's ship, a Bpfasshi Dark Jedi went to Dagobah. He fought with Yoda and Yoda prevailed. Afterwards Yoda healed Car'das. Car'das returned after creating a smuggling empire, and wanted Yoda to help him even more. Yoda questioned why Car'das turned to smuggling. After the visit Car'das retired and turned his empire over to Talon Karrde.
When Obi-Wan Kenobi died on the Death Star, Yoda began to communicate with his spirit. They decided to train Luke as a Jedi and if Luke failed they would train his sister, Leia Organa. Arhul Hextrophon, a historian, visited Dagobah after the Battle of Yavin. Arhul agreed to keep Yoda's location secret when he left. Zak and Tash Arranda came to the planet and went to the survey ship survivors. The survivors had turned to cannibalism. Yoda rescued the two children and sent them away from the planet. Yoda's next visit was from Luke Skywalker.
Luke went to Yoda to be trained as a Jedi. Yoda thought he was to old and did not have the patience to be trained. Soon he agreed to train Luke with the hope that he would restore balance to the Force. Yoda and Kenobi's spirit did not tell Luke about his father. Knowing the truth may have made it easy for Luke to go to the dark side. Luke ended his training early promising to return. He left to fight Vader on Bespin. There he found out the truth about his origins. When Luke returned Yoda's life was in its final hours. He told Luke he had completed his training. Only one task remained. Luke had to confront Vader again and destroy him. Only when Vader was destroyed could Luke be a Jedi. Yoda also gave Luke the knowledge of who his sister was. Then the Jedi Master slipped out of life to be one with the Force.
