July 7th, 2007
Today was our last official tour day in Beijing and we visited some great places. Our first stop was the Great Wall. It was so exciting!!! I started up the steep steps with Steve and turned around to look back and lost my nerve. I headed back down.

The Great Wall

Steve made it up farther than anyone else in our group. There were lots of shops and if you even stop for a second at one you get overwhelmed by the locals trying to sell you things.

Our next stop was the Jade Factory. It was really nice inside with a lot of beautiful jade items. We were able to watch a local as he crafted some jade.

We also stopped at the Friendship Store and Steve and I ate some Chinese food. Our guide, Ann, did not eat with us. She told us that is not allowed... The drivers and guides have their own dining room.

Next, we visited the Sacred Way. It was a long walk and after discussing it with the family we are traveling with, we took the trolley from the beginning to the end. The trolley was more like a golf cart but bigger. Our guide had to ride on the back.

Our last stop was unscheduled but fun. We stopped at the Beijing Harley Davidson Shop. A worker told us they have been open one year and sold 71 bikes. Steve bought a t-shirt and then gave our driver the key chain he received. Our driver was so appreciative.

Susan Song, the China director for our agency, stopped by to see us and go over things. We leave in the morning for our adoption city of Fuzhou. We were given a very nice blanket for Lindsey and also another surprise... We are meeting Lindsey on Sunday at 4:30pm at the hotel instead of Monday! There is another family adopting from Guitan and that family told me that they were meeting their daughter Sunday. I quietly wondered if we would be meeting Lindsey early due to that. It is a 3 1/2 hour one way trip from the orphanage. It only makes sense for them to make only one trip. Also, there is a chance we will not go to the orphanage as the bridge is washed out. I am told you have to take a boat to get across and the last family that went said it was very risky. I am guessing that family probably was Donna and Nate who just adopted Nadia. We told Susan that if the guide says it is too risky we will not go. We have come too far to take a big risk like that.

We may not post again until Monday as tomorrow will be very busy. We would like to thank everyone for their e-mails and prayers. This has been one exciting journey so far. The first thing I have to do when we get Lindsey is go shopping for her clothes!! I am told our guide will help take care of that!

Good-night from Beijing.
