July 6th, 2007
Today was another hot day but so much fun for everyone. We started our day at 9:30am but again Steve and I were up at 6:30am and out taking a walk after breakfast. It is amazing how many stares you get. It has taken some getting used to. The other family with us tells us that will increase once we get Lindsey. Oh well, we don't mind.

We started our day at the Summer Palace and walked a good amount from one end of it to the other. We then took the dragon boat back to the beginning.

When we finished up at the Summer Palace we visited the Pearl Market. That was very interesting. The worker asked us to guess how many pearls were inside of an oyster that was pulled out of their tank. I guessed 5 and there were 20!! They had lots of nice jewelry there. They were eager to sell to the Americans. Our guide told us they work on commission only. Some work all day and if they don't make a sale they get nothing for the day.

Our next stop was a "back alley tour." This was a tour of Hutong. This is "old Beijing" according to our guide. By the way, his name was Daniel Sun. We got a kick out of that. We visited Mr. Wei (pronounced Way) and his house... It was very nice inside. We took a rickshaw ride which was eye-opening to say the least. The smells and conditions of some of the homes we rode by made me appreciate what we have.

Our last event was the Beijing acrobatic show. We were a few minutes late due to traffic. You should know we left almost one hour early!!! We got front row seats and it was spectacular!!! We purchased the DVD so we could watch it later. The members of the team were amazing... One man was about 30 feet in the air balanced on a stack of chairs and held himself up for several minutes on one hand. AMAZING! We were worried about him falling since we were in the front row!! Thank goodness he did not.

We visit the Great Wall in the morning and then off to the ADOPTION CITY on Sunday!! I hope you enjoy the photos.
