duran duran

Although I was dead tired, when my brother told me he had an extra ticket for the duran duran concert tonight, I decided I'd go for the sake of seeing the "classic new wave" 80s band. I forgot how many awesome songs they have. Come undone, Rio, Save a prayer . . .such great songs! They left out "the reflex" and "view to a kill" though.

The gang still looked cool in their 40s(simon, john, nick, andy, roger), but the crowd, well . . .we were old. Some people looked like they were trying too hard to be young (pink hair and a beer belly don't mix). I'm happy to say I'm still in my 20s (but oh so close to the big 3-0), while those around me were mostly in their late 30s. After all, I was in the 3rd grade when the band first became popular.

wards

i'm back on inpatient wards, but this time as a 2nd year. We've had 25-30 patients on our service for the past 3 weeks so it's been a madhouse. The interns on service have been great to work with and are quite trustworthy. I haven't had much time to oversee everything they do b/c of the pateint load so it has come down to just hoping they've done all the little stuff.

I still think the 80 hour work week is a thorn in my side though. The 2nd years feel like we've been gotten the bad end of the bargain since we have to pick up the slack to enable the 80 hour work for the interns. The 2nd years last year had less call than we do now and are now living comfortably as 3rd years. All I know is I can't wait to be a 3rd year resident--more responsibility, but less call.

reunion

I iust came back from our family reunion in San Diego. My father's side of the family--those of us who can make it-- usually gets together in town every New Year's Eve and opens Christmas presents. This year, after a year of planning, 35 of the 36 attended, this time, in San Diego. This includes my father's siblings, their spouses, children, and grandchildren. My cousin and her husband, who live in San Diego, organized and spent tons of money for the event. We even went to Las Vegas at the same time Britney Spears got married.

My husband and I were able to stay about a week. We visited the beach, national city, my aunt on my mom's side, las vegas, and of course did last minute shopping. I had a great time playing with all my cute nieces and nephews, most of whom are products of interracial marriages (filipino--korean, chinese, thai/german/russian, anglo). Everyone is asking if a filipino/indian combination will be adding to the mix anytime soon, but no luck yet.

National City

I haven't seen such a concentrated amount of filipinos since I was in the Philippines. I couldn't believe there was even a Mabuhay sign on the street. What was even better was that there were several places to get filipino baked goods and lechon!

30 sec of fame

At the airport, our local TV station gave my husband an interview to comment about the higher security alert. Apparently, some TNT was found on someone's luggage and all the flights were delayed. One of my friends recorded it on her DVR, but we haven't been able to assess for ourselves whether my husbnd looked/sounded dorky or not.
