girlz nite

One of "the girls" decided she would take it upon herself and initiated a "girlz nite." Lately, the 6 of us have been seeing little of each other unless anna, who moved out of state, came into town. So in keeping with the theme that TV does in fact influence real life, watching the SEX IN THE CITY girls gave Aileen an idea. Two weeks ago, she wrote us each an e-mail asking us when the best time would be to meet for some "girl bonding."

On Sunday, we met at Cheesecake factory, late as usual. Only four of us showed this time, but nonetheless, we talked at 50 mph about everything. A couple sat at the table next to us and barely talked to eachother. In the midst of our conversation, Aileen leaned closer to us and said,"I think the couple next to us is eavesdropping big time and here we are talking about Britney Spears!"

Yes, our topics of conversation can span from pop culture, hair, and make-up to our jobs, prayer, and God. Kerry noted,"Yeah, the girl is likely rolling her eyes." But we did notice the guy blatantly turning his head to hear our conversation.

"Okay, let's talk about our JOBS!" I said so that our audience could hear. "We're all professionals here, DOCTORS, NURSES, ACCOUNT MANAGERS, MARRIED, OWN HOUSES, with REAL JOBS. " We snickered and in 1 minute we were talking about J lo and whether Christina Aguilera took a year off to get breast augmentation.

But see, the shallow stuff eventually does lead to the nitty-gritty. How's your relationship with so and so? How's the prayerlife? How was the Revered TD Jake's book? Just life in general.

We basically talked till the waiters started cleaning up around us, just in time for Aileen to watch her 11 o'clock installment of Sex in the City.

counseling clinic

i can't believe counseling clinic took so long today. The session were about an hour long each which starts to get tiring in the end. During the last session, I started getting real inpatient and sleepy b/c my attending let the patient talk for an hour and a half. but no, i couldn't sleep or daydream for that matter, because i had to write 3 pages of notes at the end of the day for each patient. Not only that, but I had to DISCUSS the patient throughly with the attending FIRST. I can't say my time was wasted, but I just wish this happened in the morning and didn't run into my afternoon time. I didn't get home till 9pm! I stayed as long as my attending did b/c it just isn't kosher to leave before an attending.

classmates.com

without a car, I really don't have much to here at my in-law's except study and watch TV. Latest reality show intake has been classmates.com where people reunite with people from high school. the only person I would be curious about, but not really want to meet, is my prom date Sean who I last saw during our summer job during college. My friend Brian who was also part of our prom date crowd and who was much better friends with Sean than I was did not keep in contact with him either. The funny thing is that even though Sean is listed in Classmates.com, we are not curious enough to spend $20 in registration fees to find out his whereabouts.

I have not kept in contact with most of my highschool friends. when highschoolalumni.com was free, I got all these e-mails from people, but not my closest friends. The closest friends never signed up and I figured they were not internet literate yet. Now that the sites are not free, some of their names have popped up, but not others. Nonetheless, high school was just not the biggest hoopla of a time for me.

Most of my friends were friends outside of school, one's i grew up with and who also happened to be filipino/a. Most of us danced in the philippine performing arts dance troupe. Those were the days . . .

dinah auntie

Just like the argument of whether the Orient is east or west, I can hardly say whether saying "dinah auntie" is backwards. Unlike my brother's niece, who calls me "auntie dinah," my husband's nieces call me the opposite.

I'm not sure if other Indians do it, but it seems in Kerala they refer to uncle and auntie after the mention of the person's name. robin uncle, susan auntie, joji uncle. It just doesn't sound good though with monosyllabic names such as Tom Uncle or Bill Uncle, of course, I've never met a Malayalee (people who speak Malayalam, those from Kerala) with a one syllable name.

ending sentences with a question mark

I've been spending these past few days with my 8 and 4 year old nieces, both of whom speak Malayalee, but the 8 year old speaks english very well. In a la American Pie style, the 8 year old informed me," My friend? ally? the other Malayalee in my class? she's not going to my school anymore."

I don't know why kids speak like that, it's almost a twist of valley girl vernacular.

and then she told me even more news

If you think kids don't listen, they actually are flies on the wall. The 9 year old divulges everything from the name chosen for the new baby to why the carpet cleaner is divorced. My friend's 6 year old niece spilled the beans to my friend's mother that her boyfriend was coming in town secretly. For little critters, these kids have big ears.

The latest news my niece told me was that she was growing boobies. I laughed as she pulled up to show me her definite 8 year old body which needed no training bra. I told her not to be concerned with her chest and do definitely not show random people.

i need a hobby

Last Saturday we didnt' have Bible study and so my husband and I didn't know what to do with ourselves. I'm either on call, post-call, or have bible study on a Saturday and so saturdays are usually booked. So there we were continually asking eachother, "What do you want to do?"

We couldn 't agree. Go to the driving range? watch a movie? go to seaworld? play tennis? By 9pm, we were still fiddling around on our respective computers disagreeing on what to do. We didn't call any of our friends--many who have children-- thinking they probably already had plans. So we ended up going to a cute mexican restaurant and stuffed ourselves with sopapillas.

I'm sure one day, when we have a child, we'll be wishing for this time to ourselves, but right now we are such a sorry couple that we don't even know what to do with our freetime! I need a hobby!

I used to dance, play the guitar, the piano, sing, play tennis, but now i'm just "blah." I find many excuses not to do the above: it's too hot, i'm too bored with the songs I play and the songs I sing.

vacation

I'm on a week vacation right now, life is good. basically we're out of town visiting my in-laws who are expecting a child any day now. I find myself reading Parenting, Parents, What to expect when you're expecting . . .can i say it's my latest hobby?
