Building 429

I saw the group Building 429 the other day in concert. They were excellent--along the lines of the former band Creed as far as music style goes. I like the fact that they kept it very Jesus centered whereas a lot of other Christian bands tend to get over-sensational.

getting bigger by the day

Now that I've hit the 3rd trimester, I'm just ballooning. All the large T-shirts I bought from Old Navy are starting to become crop tops. I'm running out of "cool" clothes. The other day, the derm resident--who is also pregnant--and I wore the same top. We were so embarrassed, but it just goes to show that decent maternity clothing is limited not to mention expensive.

cultural beliefs

Upon administering a hepatitis vaccine on one of my 1 month old patients, the medical assistant (MA's)noted that a black string had been tied tightly around the baby's ankle. All the MA's told her to cut it off because it looked like it was hurting the baby. When I asked the mother about this she told me it was a "superstitious" Native American belief that warded off bad spirits. I didn't want to offend her by saying that it was ridiculous, but I just explained that it cut into the baby's skin and also cut off circulation.
