Dear Friends,
For the past three years I have worked on a writing project I consider my life’s work.
At times it was a labor of love. Other times, the work was my personal hell – demanding my attention in lieu of sleep, stealing my appetite, or inspiring vices in frustration.
Good, bad, and in between, the culmination of that literary journey is now in sight…the novel “My Fractured Life.”
During this same three year time period I have written four screenplays, ten screen treatments, two stage plays, one radio single, and over 100 newspaper and magazine articles. And, while I’m proud of each piece – none of them compares in meaning to this novel.
“My Fractured Life” is an extension of me. Oh, it is a fiction novel. Let me be clear on that. But, anyone who knows me will recognize familiar elements in more than one of the characters and their stories. You write what you know.
Because there are some reflections of me within its pages, in a way seeing my book published feels comparable to standing naked before the world. I guess that makes me an exhibitionist, at least figuratively. I am filled with equal parts of excitement and fear.
At times writing this novel was therapeutic, in the sense that it provided an opportunity to visit tender moments from my past and share the essence of the most special of those memories. At times the therapy of the writing process was not so calming, forcing me to exercise demons I had long vanquished behind walls and barriers but decided to visit again for the narrative potential they promised.
More than anything, I am proud.
I am proud of “My Fractured Life” as a piece of entertainment. I’m not predicting that it will change the world – it’s a popular fiction novel, not the Declaration of Independence. But writing it changed me. It carries within its pages my very soul.
The worth of a piece of entertainment is not determined by the artist. The artist creates; it is ultimately up to the audience to determine the value of the work.
I place “My Fractured Life” – my life’s work – in your hands to judge, and I look forward to hearing your comments.
To make the book accessible to everyone, we have arranged to offer the book at a discount to fans through TravoltaNet.com. The book retails in stores for $15.95, but can be purchased online through TravoltaNet.com for just $10.
Also keep in mind that you can request the book at your local library. If they don’t already have it on the shelves, they’ll special order it for you. It’s a way for you to enjoy reading it for free that also gives other members of the community the chance to explore its pages.
Whether the book is purchased at a discount through TravoltaNet.com or a full retail value at Amazon.com or your local bookstore, 50% of my earnings as the author go to the Rikki Lee Travolta American Hero Foundation, established following the September 11th tragedies.
As always, I am your fan, for your support makes my career possible. I appreciate each and every one of you.
