Open Letter From Rikki Lee Travolta

Monthly Travolta Commentary</head>

“Black Man, Yellow Man, Red Man, White,
Everybody’s got a cause that’s right.
The line is drawn, but whose to blame?
A Mother’s tears are all the same.

So we lay them down to sleep.
We lay them down to die.
We lay them down just one last time,
To a Hero’s Lullaby.”
~ from the song “Hero’s Lullaby.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

Dear Friends,

Martin Luther King Jr. was not a God. He was not the Second Coming of Christ. He was a man; just a man. But, he showed us what just a man can do.

Martin Luther King Jr. preached a gospel of peace and tolerance. He showed us that the oppressed need not stoop to the level of their oppressors to be heard. He taught us that to be treated as equals, we must act as equals – raise the level of expectation for others rather than lower our expectations of ourselves. He taught us the power of love, the power of patience. He taught us not to accept injustice, but also that to conquer the injustices brought by others means to rise above these acts rather than emulate them.

I, too, am just a man. I make no claims to being on the same level of greatness as Martin Luther King Jr. But I live every day aspiring to learn from his teaching, aspiring to improve myself in his image, aspiring to touch the lives of others in a positive rather than negative way.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday is this month. He was a soul robbed of this world far too early. Let us honor his memory the way that he lived his life: by striving to improve our world. Martin Luther King Jr. left this world a better place, what if we all made that our goal?

As always I am your fan. Share the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. .

Peace Love Trust
