Feel the Bottom Structures
We ate our picnic lunch at
a nice, friendly hotel and then went off up the stream to look at an unconformity.
Climbing across the stream from boulder to boulder required stout walking
boots and a reasonably good sense of balance. Stopped at an interesting
road cutting on the way back and sat on the barrier sketching the folds
and faults. Sitting down and trying to draw what you see forces you to
look carefully. Even if you can't draw well, you end up spotting things
you would otherwise miss. Went up close. While Jane was talking to us,
we noticed Christophe hopping up and down, clearly bursting to tell us
something but not wanting to interrupt Jane.
"Come and feel my bottom structures" he called.
We all rushed over and obediently
ran our fingers over the underside of this piece of rock. Yes, it was
definitely rippled. Maybe my sense of touch is refining, I shall have
to try feeling some slickensides again.
