Sunday
The Steamy Coach
After breakfast we got on the
coaches. Unlike yesterday, today was wet, cold and windy. This is where
the dreadful weather got to.
We had rucksacks containing
extra clothes, wet weather gear and packed lunches, clip-boards, notes
and hard hat. As we drove to Hillbeck hill, Mik gave us a running commentary
on the geology of the area. Unfortunately, the mist and rain had visibility
down to a few yards and the coach windows steamed up so it was impossible
to see very much. Saw a few "woolly erratics" (sheep!). Began to appreciate
that there are many "in" Geology jokes that only Geologists understand.
We arrived at the loo stop in pouring rain. As usual, there was a queue
at the Ladies loo and no queue at the gents. Score one more to the chaps.
Gents 2, Ladies 1. We are being careful about how much we drink, but it
is SO cold that I don't think we are likely to suffer much from thirst.
