Snuffles:

Snuffles is a respiratory disease that manifests itself in copious nasal discharge and labored breathing. A simple cold can be the precursor of snuffles, which is a highly infectious disease and can quickly infect the whole stock. The mucous membranes of the nose swell and become bright red in color. The fluid coming from the nostrils is at first relatively thin but gradually becomes thicker and takes on a yellow color. The rabbit has obvious discomfort and uses its forepaws as a "handkerchief" to try to relieve the irritation in the nostrils. The infected rabbit sneezes frequently, and as the disease progresses the lungs become infected, causing the animal to make loud snuffling noises as it breathes. A conscientious fancier, of course, does not allow the disease to reach such a stage and has the animal humanely put to sleep. If the disease is caught in its early stages it may be successfully treated with antibiotics. In some European countries, especially in Russia, attempts are being made to produce rabbits that are immune to the disease.
