Hocks, Sore:

This sometimes occurs in the heavier breeds. Smaller breeds, which are more active and have a higher metabolic rate, are rarely affected with this problem. Larger breeds have a much greater pressure on their hind limbs. You should regularly examine the underside of the hocks, which must be covered with hair. Bald patches may eventually turn into open wounds.

My own advise: If sore hocks do occur, use an ointment such as Neosporin until healed.
