Bloat:

If a rabbit's belly swells dramatically, it is probable that it has bloat. This is caused by a buildup of gases in the intestines and stomach as a result of improper feeding. The food stays too long in the alimentary canal, is only partially digested, and begins to ferment. If the droppings are covered with a slimy coat, there is a chance that the animal is also suffering from coccidiosis. (See next page)
The main cause of bloat is a one-sided diet. Young white clover and wet grass in large quantities are commonly suspect. Moldy hay or roots should never be given to rabbits as these can also cause problems. With early detection, the problem can be relieved by an injection from the veterinarian.
