Like many youth groups, YFC holds retreats, or "camps." The first camp anyone goes to is usually the regular camp, as described in this article by Philip Echavez. Thereafter, a member can choose to go to any of the special camps offered by YFC periodically throughout the year. For more info, visit the official Web site.

"Isn't that an old article? I think I have a copy of that somewhere," said Karl Jackson, YFC-UIC. This article was tacked to the YFC bulletin board at UIC's Newman Center. YFC-UIC is slowly making an impact on a major urban university -- starting with one of three college dailies. Unfortunately, the newspaper's issue date was cut off the clipping so we don't know which camp this article was referring to.
Youth For Christ, a Catholic-Christian youth ministry at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will hold its first weekend retreat from 7 pm Friday to 2 pm Sunday.
"The camp is a chance for interested students to get to know YFC and what we're about, developing a stronger personal relationship with God through listening to others' personal experiences and their relationship to Christ," organization president Phillip Echavez said.
"Too many students think that talking about God and things like prayer have to be boring. YFC takes a much more exciting and youth-oriented approach. What makes us different is that we talk about God in life from our own youth perspectives. Not everyone knows scripture, but no one will be judged because of that," Echavez said.
The weekend will include group prayers, scripture discussion sessions and interpreting how faith relates to young peoples' daily lives.
"We also have time set aside for homework and a chance to socialize to get to know one another, even a talent show, singing, acting, comedy - there is something for everyone," Echavez said.
"The goal of the camp is everyone to come away with a sense of how important God is in their lives."
The retreat will be held at the UIC Newman Center, 700 South Morgan Street. Call (847) 431-5122, or check www.geocities.com/yfcuic for more information. Next story

For all of those who missed our community-based camp this weekend... the SOUTHWEST.WEST.SOUTH camp ROCKED!! You missed out... but I know that you were all praying for us cuz I totally felt it. Even tho a lot of you guys weren't there, I knew you kept us close to your hearts. Thanks for all the prayers and support. This camp went EXTREMELY smooth! Yeah it was rocky at first. ...
#1 we had like no participants
#2 we had no bus
#3 we had no priest for mass
#4 my parents ran out of gas on their way to streator... in the crazy dark and scary highway!
#5 someone had the chicken pox
#6 someone felt a lil' sick
#7 Kevin was GREEN!!!!
but all in all... it was GREAT!! These challenges were nothing compared to the fact that we proclaimed victory in Jesus' name with fifteen participants! Praise God!!!! He is soooo GOOOD!!!! We'll all see you all at the assembly!!! AMEN!
