Let me tell you a story about a girl who was gung-ho
ANTI-CAMPUS BASED!!!! That would be me.
The words "campus based YFC" were never in my dictionary, and I made
this clear to everyone especially at GAT2K. My first night in the Philippines, I was
speaking with Leslie Nethercott and Ann Ann from NorCal (UC-DAVIS). I gave them a long
shpeil about how it is community or nothing for me.
Well, to make a long story short, little by little people were convincing me
that campus-based YFC is a good thing. Once I got home, I turned from a gung-ho
anti-campus based person to a semi-maybe-i'll-give-it-a-chance person.
Well, by junior year, my mind was set on going to DePaul University in Chicago.
My my my... how God likes to hit people in the head sometimes... and it's a GOOD thing!
First of all, here is Stephanie Nethercott who was all about the campuses, who visitied
Chicago a few times and the next thing I know, YFC-DePaul is slowly going underway and I
was at an EXE-comm ReTreat.
Oh dear let me tell you that this was the third time in in my three years of
being in YFC that I felt this INCREDIBLE HIGH!!! I knew that weekend was for me to focus
on God and true service. Service shouldn't be limited, and the activities that weekend
really helped me to understand that.
Community or campus based, we all have a vision to bring people to GOD, and we
should be GUARDIANS of that vision. Just because my heart is in the community, that
shouldn't stop me from little evangelizations in college. I know that God has to be placed
EVERYWHERE... so after EXERT, I was like, "Hey! If the opportunity is there, God
opens the doors, then TAKE IT! Don't slow down His work because you don't "feel like
it. God's work is NOT LIMITED! Take it to the extremes, and do it with others!"
It is the greatest feeling to know that God has been knocking my head to do His
work. I mean, I'm not leaving the community, but I know that I am needed as assistance at
DePaul. God has done a lot for us, and if it weren't for EXERT and its empowering talks
and SUPER FUN ACTIVITIES, I don't think I would be as into campus-based as I kinda am now.
The weekend was so busy, you didn't have time to complain. Similar to doing His
work, we should keep ourselves busy enough to bring people TO HIM rather than wasting
precious time and letting precious souls stray away. This could be our last day on earth!
Let's live it to the fullest for Him!
