GLENVIEW, Ill., July 29 -- Old and new faces gathered
one week after the 6th Annual
Leader's Conference last July 21-23 in Seattle at the Rosal's residence in Glenview,
Illinois.
It would be the first household meeting after the Victory Conference. It was another
typical meeting with music, Bible sharing, and mingling, but with about 10 more people
than the usual few that come to the weekly household meetings. New members from the April
youth camp also came.
Youth from North and Central Chicago ("units" of youth formally known as the
Northern Army and Central Strawberries) had thier household meeting and was later joined
by the members of the West unit (West Warriors) to celebrate Gene and Jessica Rosal's
birthday. About 40 people came from all three units.
While everyone was out in the playground, leaders and couple coordinators discussed plans
for the Indiana mission trip. A handpicked 19 members joined cluster heads Manuel Doctor
and Geraldine Malicay to open up YFC in Indiana. The trip happened August 3-5. According
to Dexter Malicay, Central Strawberries unit head, there were a few participants from
Illinois that traversed the five-hour trip with them. He said it was because Indiana was
the next available camp. "But all good. Now we have YFC-Indiana," he said. (More
on the Indiana Mission trip in the next issue.)
Talk of opening YFC at Wisconsin follows the mission trip to Indiana. Establishing YFC at
Northern Illinois University (NIU) contiues also. Camps at the three established
campus-based areas (University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign and Loyola University Chicago) are also in the works. Online
evangelization through websites and e-mail continues to grow.
"It's a mighty fine day to serve the Lord," said Tito Orland Nethercott, couple
coordinator for YFC-Northern California. Indeed, this southern-inspired saying was coined
by YFC-Texas, the home of Dallas and the 7th Annual
YFC-Leader's Conference. But before the next
conference, there is much sowing, much reaping, and much rejoicing in the future victories
the Lord has planned for all YFC areas in the year 2000. Next
