Too bad we can't use this banner anymore.
Chris Adrenada, YFC-University of Illinois at Chicago, designed,
and with the help of brothes and sisters, painted this old Chicago banner. Glitters were
embedded into the cloth, and it sparkled in the dim lights during the praise parade for
the 7th annual YFC Leader's Conference in Seattle last July. It was modelled after a historic
city landmark, a sign encrusted with lights atop the Chicago Theater in downtown State
street.
Though proclaiming itself "Chicago," emcees baptized this
area a new name. "They were once only within the city, but now they're getting bigger," the emcees boomed. The banner strode down the middle aisle, and from that moment on,
the area was known as "YFC-Illinois."
Welcome to The Word!
All YFC functions start with a joke: What do you get when you divide the circumference of your jack-o-lantern by its diameter? A pumpkin pi!
YFC-Illinois' official newsletter switched from dishing out issues twice a month during the last quarter of 2000 to being a quarterly for 2001.
Not much will change, except that The Word will appear
less often. There still will be stories, photos, useful links, schedules, and
announcements. Check out the Illinois EXERT camp, YFC-UIC published in a paper, FREESPEAK from NorCal, a sister who prays for a talk show reunion with her dad, and YFC filmed at an actual talk show, the Jenny Jones show. Besides these stories, this issue is going to be more interactive.
JESUS SAYS:
See those quotes at the bottom of each page? You are invited to add any Bible verse
you want. Besides "Jesus Says," there's "ILL Lyric," for favorite song
lyrics, and "ILL Blah" for quotable quotes. Watch out for them. (Want to contribute to them now? Click here.)
WHY YOUTH NEED TO VOTE:
From time to time, we're going to ask you what you think on certain issues. Check
out this issue's vote here.
WHAT DO YOU
THINK?
Copied straight from the official Web site, we invite you to give feedback on
stories you've read in here, events you've come across, and even raise issues in our
message board. We trust that you will keep everything that you say civil and respectful.
JOIN US!
YFC-Illinois has two major e-mail lists: one for community-based, and another for
campus-based. You are invited to join either or both of them. See the sidebar to the left.
GUESTBOOK:
No respectable YFC Web site would be caught without one. Sign it as often as you
wish!
There is the new Word for y'alls. Use it as much and often
as you can! If you discover any broken links, have a story idea, or want to write, please
do not hesitate to let us know. Enjoy!
