This agency seems to handle a bunch of very talented individuals. One, Brett Helquist is the talented illustrator for Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events". [Okay, it seems he is no longer handled by Shannon Associates anymore.]

How I got to the previous two sites was via a mention in an online article about Stephin Merritt recording theme music for the aforementioned series of deadly grue aka "A Series of Unfortunate Events". Stephin Merritt is perhaps known more for his three album collection of "69 Love Songs". The article is not really worth posting a link to...you can always do a search on his name. Or just follow Lemony Snicket's advice and just turn that computer off now. You'll just be safer, you know.

Moyra's Web Jewels

I'm so pissed. One of my favorite places to visit on the web has now closed down. Although I never acknowledged it before, Moyra and her very pretty web interfaces encouraged me to try my own hand at crafting an integrated web interface for my own web page many years ago. I had never considered web page design before as a profession until I saw her efforts and realized how easily it could be done.

Alas, I may never be able to share with you her wonderful scintillating designs. Perhaps this will encourage me to devise my own.

Earth and Ocean


When I heard Laurie Anderson was on a new tour I decided it was destiny because for once I had some discretionary income to spend on tickets. After some deliberation I found that my friend Jason was available and willing to attend. As a pre-function treat he took me to dinner at a fairly new restaurant, Earth & Ocean. The food and the service were fabulous. I really enjoyed myself. After the show we went for drinks at a quiet bar, Ing, around the corner from my apartment that I've always wonder what it was like. Now I know that it is a pleasent place to have a conversation plus the bartender is friendly and willing to experiment with new drinks.

This is a web zine that seems to be devoted to urban idleness. I have to admit I like to think of myself as a superb "time-waster", so this sobriquet appeals to me. Someday I imagine I will be as famous as Quentin Crisp or Oscar Wilde...both idlers of a high order.

Okay, okay...I admit I got this off of my favorite porn site, but hey! it is a damn good porn site, and just because it started off as this guy's web cam site and then when it turned porn he just wanted to have something worthwhile and uplifting...something Buddhist even, well anyway. I like it. So there.

Zot! Online - Week 1

My cold and post employment depression has lingered somewhat, but now I think it is beginning to lift. Just this week I've had several phone calls in response to the advertising I placed in a couple of the local papers. Mostly just inquiry, but any response is hopeful. I have two more weeks to go for the Stranger, so I am hopeful that something might develop.

I'll try to explain why I've included the links above, most of the time I'm not really in reviewer mode when I hit "Blog This". The first one is a long time favorite cartoonist, Scott McCloud, who wrote "Understanding Comics", basically a primer for reading comic books and an analysis of pictorial narratives. Zot! is his ongoing comic, only this time around created for viewing on the Internet. I recommend checking it out.

The next link is a Euro-centric British site that reviews "Flash" sites on the Internet. Many of these sites are wonders to behold and if you are used to the standard "static" presentation of information that is indicative of HTML, you may not like these interfaces. I've been slowly playing around with "Flash", the program and internet protocol that Macromedia developed several years back specifically to present moving, interactive graphics and sound for the internet. You have to have the viewer plug-in to see the stuff which, depending on your bandwidth and your graphics card or computer, may not be worth the effort. If you can I recommend you install the plug-in now and go take a look at what you've been missing.

The last link is one that seems to offer a community for digital artists to post and interact with other artists. There is a lot of interesting imagery here. At the same time, I wonder if I will participate. I don't know anyone there and I already have my own site to post my artwork. I'm going to have to check it out for a while and decide.
