I've been part of two newspapers for my schools. The first was my high school newspaper, Cat Chronicles (formerly Cat Chat). The second was The Collegian, Iowa Central's college newspaper from Fort Dodge, Iowa. On this page, you will find links to the articles I wrote for each publication.
The following is a bit I wrote as a filler for my final trimester test. I had no idea what to write and had to hand in my paper that day. Sure, I got points deducted, but at least my instructor got a laugh out of it.
Meet My Writer's Block
Yes, that's right, it's back... Just when you least expect it, you can't think of anything to write. Then you spend the next few days trying to think but instead get nowhere very fast. Even when there are little thoughts that could turn into great ideas, the words either don't pop out, or the ideas promptly shrivel to nothingness after a paragraph or two.
When some think of writer's block, they may think of children's wooden toy blocks. This is nothing like that. This is like a blocked pipe. The ideas are there, they're just not getting through for one reason or another. It may be that the ideas are right there in front of you, but you just don't notice them. You may know what you want to write about, but just don't know how to put the words to print.
For some lucky few, writer's block doesn't happen often or for long. For the rest of us, this is a very frustrating predicament. If it's a personal story that is being written just for fun, it doesn't matter much, but if it is something that is due for a class or business, this could be some big trouble.
In this case, I have no options. See that white space? That is my writer's block. It'll be here for a while.
