April

Although still early in its days, April has come to be a very interesting month. A blood drive, music trip to New York and now a good sized snowfall have many people asking “What next?” With most of the month left, quite a bit can actually still happen. We still have upcoming events such as Spring Break and Prom, which can very likely lead to some interesting interactions.

Spring Break, as always for Humboldt High School, is over Easter weekend. Instead of getting an entire week off like many other schools, this four day weekend for us allows us to get out of school much sooner for the summer. Some people opt for a Spring Break trip while others find activities around town to occupy their time. As many would agree, any time off from school is much appreciated, and most will try to put this time to full use.

Prom activities aren’t limited to Prom Day. This involves a process that is sometimes many months long, especially for girls. Getting a date, searching for the perfect prom dress, making sure the date has ordered his tux, setting up appointments for a practice and actual Prom hair styling, ordering corsages and boutonnieres, and of course planning for pictures are some common similarities. In the end, it all pays off. Some things don’t turn out exactly as some would wish, but overall, most everyone has a lot of fun.

The weather is still an issue as well. The snow seems to be over, but April, which is reputed to be the rainiest month of the year, hasn’t produced very much precipitation. However, even with the little rain we’ve received this month, some flowers are starting to make their appearances.

All in all, an odd little month, and it’s not over yet. Spring fever is in the air, and the promise of summer has people thinking about swimming, biking, and other summertime activities. It can’t be helped. For some, summer is a release; a time to relax and break free of the daily school schedules. April marks the beginning of this transition, and there are those who have been waiting since last fall for this.
