Auditions

Spring is rapidly approaching, and although many associate spring with the last few weeks of school or the return of birds and flowers, there are a few dozen students thinking something entirely different. They are clearing their voices and concentrating on keeping a straight face. Spring Play auditions are here.

Actually, they have come and gone, and the results have been posted. Students are now going around the school either ecstatic about the great part they got or complaining about how this part is nothing in comparison to a part they got a previous year. Then there are of course those students who will be working behind the stage.

This year's Spring Play, "Donovan's Daughters" is based on the Shakespearean story, "The Taming of the Shrew." For those who don't know, another similar story is "10 Things I Hate About You." In this play, the eldest of the five Donovan girls must marry before the rest but is a bit of a "wild cat" and just won't settle down. The performance dates are March 28 and 29.

Another upcoming event which requires an audition is the annual Soundsations performance. Students practice songs and skits to perform on stage for other students and the community. This is usually a comical experience so bring a camera because the performance date is April 16.

Other auditions throughout the year include PreProm Entertainment, Fall Musical, State Solo and Small Ensemble Contest, All-State Band and Choir, and Jazz Choir. All of these require practice and concentration. The hard work, however, is worth it, and most everyone involved enjoys the time they spend preparing for the final productions.
