At Humboldt High, some seniors may have late start or early out if study halls allow it, though we are not an open campus school. Most colleges, on the other hand, are open campus, and students may come and go as they wish. At Iowa Central in Fort Dodge, lunch is very different from ours here in Humboldt. Hot lunch is provided, but there is more variety and selection of food. In fact, Iowa Central is reputed to have one of the best hot lunch programs in North-Central Iowa. Other differences are that classes aren’t held at the same times each day or everyday for that matter. Class periods of different classes are also different lengths.
Many Humboldt High School and Junior High students may complain about school policy, teachers, and undoubtedly the lunch as well. From a grade school, Freshman, and even Junior view, it may sometimes seem that high school is never going to end. From a senior view, however, it only seems that it has gone by too fast. We’ve built some fun memories along the way, but once we get to this final stage, we actually yearn for it to last a little bit longer.
As I look back at my senior year, I must say that it’s been one wild ride. Definitely not all what I expected, there are few things I would change about it. Some in my position might be saying, “Okay, I’m finally out... Time to relax a bit.”, but I am one of the many who will be starting up at least two more years of school this fall. As with others from Humboldt, I’ll be attending Iowa Central in Fort Dodge so in many aspects, I’ll still be here. More than you think, in fact, because I will once again be writing to all of you, this time from the pages of The Iowa Central Collegian. See you all this fall!
