Whether on DVD, VHS, or still in the theatre, you have to admit that movies are good entertainment. Around the holidays, especially, there are a lot of movies to choose from, and as an added bonus, you might just get them at a great discount price.
Well, this month's movie is kind of a new release. It was in theatres about a year ago, and although it's a cartoon, you wouldn't exactly call it a kid's kind of show. Hey, cartoons aren't just for little kids; us big kids like them, too. That's why this month's movie is "Eight Crazy Nights" starring Adam Sandler (and Adam Sandler and Adam Sandler and Adam Sandler).
“Eight Crazy Nights” is definitely not your normal holiday movie, but then again, most wouldn’t consider Adam Sandler to be normal. In this movie, he voices not only the lead character of Davey, but also that of Whitey, Eleanore, and the weird little helpful deer. And don’t forget to prepare yourself to laugh and maybe even sing along to a few more of Sandler’s songs, including a third version of “The Chanukah Song.”
Davey Stone is a loser and every year around the holiday season, it only gets worse. After a little incident at a Chinese restaurant, a judge assigns him as a referee in training for the Jewish Community Center. Whitey, who volunteers to change Davey’s attitude, wants nothing else than to receive the “All-Star” patch, the highest award handed out at an annual awards banquet. Together, they ultimately succeed in bringing joy to the community, despite Davey’s aversion to Chanukah.
Okay, so the plotline is a little thin, but the overall theme is good. Think about it: poor Jewish guy who no one likes learns the true meaning of Christmas… er… Chanukah… and becomes a nice guy after all. But if you don’t get that out of it, that’s completely okay. Hey, it’s a movie and an Adam Sandler one at that. You’re not supposed to think too hard; just enjoy it and have a good laugh.
I’m sure you’ve seen the previews so get out there and rent the movie. Or you could always buy it. The songs within it are well worth it, and the entire film will lift your spirits above your shopping woes. I have to give this movie an A. Not the best movie I’ve seen, but definitely one of the better ones. If you like Saturday Night Live, this one’s going to make you laugh just as hard.
