Day 5
Saturday October 1, 2011
Today was moving day so we checked out of Tuscany and we started off the day be going to the Gold Coast to see how I placed in the Video Poker Tournament yesterday. They don't post the results until noon and it was a little early so we went to lunch. We were going to go to the Noodle Exchange but they weren't open yet so we went to Ping Pang Pong. Dee got soft noodles with chicken and I got orange beef. They were both really good and I'd get them again.

After we ate we went over to the slot club to check the scores and it turns out that my score of just over 2000 got me 29th place and $50 in free play. I ran the $50 through a triple play machine and scored a quad and a few other dealt winners and cashed out at $85. That's not too bad on a free video poker tournament!

We left the Gold Coast and took the 90 mile drive to Laughlin where we spend a few days every trip. The drive was pretty good today and we made good time arriving in town. The ride seems so much faster these days with the road being 4 lanes and the speed limit having been raised to 75mph.

Like the last few trips we were staying at the Aquarius. I booked this through our host here at the Aquarius and she offered either the giant suite that we've had in the past but totally based on action, or she could give us a regular room with a river view and all meals comped in the buffet and cafe with meals elsewhere based on play. We took the regular room with the food because even though we like the giant suite it does go to waste while we're there. We've also got mailers for free play with Dee getting $135 and I only got $100 (down from $175). I found it odd that my offer had dropped so much since the last one (this mailer was already sent prior to our last trip) and Dee's had gone up so much (from $20). We were also set up in some special dinner show presented by the chefs at the Aquarius.

When we arrived we parked in the valet area and went into the VIP check in area where everything was set up and our host greeted us. In a few minutes we were on our way to room 18077. This is a king room with nightstands, dresser, work desk, flat screen TV and a south river view of all of the other casinos in town. The bathroom is small with a vanity, toilet and tub. My only problem with the bathrooms here is they are a little small and there isn't much counter space.

Once we got settled in we rested for a while and then got ready for the dinner show. The show was at 5pm so we headed over a little early in order to get seated and see what was actually going to happen here tonight. It was a presentation like you'd see on the food network but instead of celebrity chefs, they used their own. They showed how they prepare a certain dish, and then that dish was served to everyone. The appetizer was black olive tapenade over French Crostini. Next up was a freshly prepared Waldorf Salad and the entree was Braised Beef Filet with wild mushrooms, gorgonzola cheese and a Tawny Port Glace de Viand as well as Chicken Breast vesuvio with match stick potatoes, white wine and pea beurblanc. The side dish was artichoke and roasted garlic duchess potatoes and fresh vegetable medley. For dessert they prepared a cherry vanilla tartlet with brandied cherry mascarpone cheese. All of the foods were very good and the show was fun to watch. They had cameras set up with overhead views just like the cooking shows on TV do so you could see the full preparation of everything.

After the dinner show we hit the machines. I started off with my $100 in free play and got almost 3k in action out of it before busting it out. I started feeding in bills after this with few quads and few dealt winners. I dropped $300 for the session but Dee was doing well between dry spells. She got dealt quad threes and pulled them 2 more times. She also hit aces 3 times and various other quads. In the end she did only cash out with a $100 win but it helped offset the losses I had today (likes she usually does).

It was late now and we were both tired so packed it in and put another night into the books.

Total win/loss for the day - $100
Total Comps for the day $253
