Let's Go Mets! June 30 - HOME GAME #41 vs Chicago Cubs (39-35)

The Mets veteran lefty Jon Neise (3-7) faces the Cubs Kyle Hendricks (2-4) as the Mets build on their 4 game win streak and try to catch the Nationals in the NL East.

40-38

Lets Go Mets! The one game the Mets worked so hard to gain on Washington was lost in two hours and twenty two minutes of pathetic fly balls and called third strikes. A total of 7 hits for both teams combined leaves little to understand about the Mets close game woes. Winning three straight by scores of 2-0, 2-1, 2-1 and thanks to Steven Matz 4 RBI's, a 7-2 win on Sunday, the ability to always win close games is great! When you win. Poor Jon Niese has suffered from poor run support in his last nine outings while delivering quality starts in his last five trips to the mound.

Ticket Cost: $81
Time of game: 2:22
Attendance: 27,084

Deb and I came to the stadium a little hungry today. We started with a drink and a pretzel, dipping it in deli mustard. Pretty good. Then I went and picked up a burger and some crinkle cut fries. Very good. Now Deb wanted to try the fried Oreos. Hmmm. Right next to the bacon on a stick. Ouch. We went to our seats and soon came by my vendor friend Michael. Michael is a great guy, super busy. Left us with a Budweiser and a bag of peanuts. Overload.

We were in the first row of the section and got a few small sprinkles but it was so humid we didn't hardly notice. There were three foul balls hit to the left and to the right within a section of us but nothing close enough to knock people over for. Great seats, it was the section that we hid from the rain during Saturday's suspended contest.

Caesar's Gold seats

Mets hitting is criminal

Tonight's game had an eerie feel as we did not roam the stadium as usual. We explored the Caesar's Club and ate at one of the bars along the third base line. I checked my seats for some of the upcoming games and found a great view of where Shea Stadium once stood. The faded skyline of Manhattan stood above the tree line.

The ghost of Shea Stadium

This cloud over the stadium ...

Made me think of this

But the future is bright!

The three ballplayers in the blue sweatshirts are (L-R) pitchers Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz, and Jacob deGrom. Along with Matt Harvey and the return next season of a healthy Zack Wheeler, this has the makings of a pitching staff that could dominate the National League for many moons. Can the Mets please find some bats to help these guys get some wins.
