Let's Go Mets! JUNE 9 - HOME GAME #30 vs San Francisco Giants (32-26)

Noah "Thor" Syndergaard (2-3) goes up against the Giants Chris Heston (5-4). June 9th, 1999 I went to my only Mets home game at Shea. Today is the first time I will watch a Giants vs Mets game as a home team fan.

31-28

Lets Go Mets! I knew today would be epic but I would not have guessed a no-hitter by Giants rookie pitcher Chris Heston. Ground outs and strikeouts with three straight called third strikes in the ninth. The Mets offense consisted of 3 hit by pitch, Heston did not allow a walk.

Ticket Cost: $324
Time of game: 2:32
Attendance: 23,155

Tonight's seat

Great seat, beautiful weather, all I can eat food, the Giants in town, I had not had a game in eight days and was missing going to the ballpark. My first game of seeing the Giants at Mets was memorable but for all the wrong reasons. But God works in mysterious ways as I had really become homesick during the 8 days off and could not motivate myself to go anywhere and explore the area. I had a couple quiet days where I had not heard from any of my friends and family all day. During the game and for hours afterwards I received text messages from sixteen friends and family and more messages on Facebook. I was not a happy camper from the Mets loss but having communication with so many people did lift my spirits even though the outcome of the game was not ideal.

Giants fans can't match the 7Line Army

As I walked through the tunnel exit from my seats, I came across a group of Giants fans getting wristbands to go into the press room. There were a couple Heston jerseys so I assumed it was family. I stopped and looked the group over, and stated "You must be family of the no hit pitcher". "I'm his aunt" one lady said while getting her wristband. I said "The outcome was not in my favor but congratulations on the no-hitter". I still was not a happy camper.

The above video I took during the last out. You can hear someone yelling at Ruben Tejada to "Swing the bat", it was me frustrated at a lack of swings even though the umpire helped a bit with a larger than normal strike zone.

My place in the crowd

Standing in Buckner's shoes

While waiting for the ballpark entrance gates to open I decided that since it was 16 years since my only trip to Shea Stadium, I would visit what is now the parking lot. I took the above picture while standing where Bill Buckner would have been bending over to let Mookie's ground ball go through his legs for the unbelievable 1986 World Series game 6 come from behind win.

Tonight's great seat comes with access to the Delta360 lounge with the great ballpark buffet of salads, hot dogs, chili, nachos, etc. When I walked down the tunnel to my seats, none other than Mr. Met was headed towards me. I was able to snap a quick selfie with him as we crossed paths.
