Just what I wanted this summer! RAIN! I had probably been in the ballpark 15 minutes when it started to rain very hard and steady. I got "trapped" under the scoreboard in center field as the rain came down in buckets for a good half hour. I finally danced between concession awnings to get underneath the left field stands. It was great because I got my car washed in the parking lot and washed my Mets jersey too [while I was wearing it unfortunately].

Rain on the Shea Bridge

Heavy rain

With the long dry summers in the Central Valley back in California, this was a welcome sight in June. Back home it was hot with the temperature over 90 degrees most of the week. I may have mentioned it before but I really wanted to see some summer rain while here. I would watch games on TV and see it raining and thought how nice if we could get summer rain in Modesto.

Well I got my wish today. The best part was when the rain suddenly quit, the grounds crew at Citi Field jumped into action and with little over an hour to get the field in playing shape, they did just that! They removed the tarp, cleaned it, rolled it back up, filled in the water puddles in front of both dugouts and Citi was ready for the game as if nothing had happened. Great Job grounds crew!

Unsung heroes getting the field ready

Tonight my seat was in the Pepsi Porch which towers above right field. I was a little worried about being exposed to the wet elements there but it turned out to be a beautiful evening. A soft cool breeze with no more rain. One of the better evenings this month.

When I was younger I was a meter reader, strolling through neighborhoods and back yards collecting power consumption data from homes and businesses in all types of weather [well, California weather]. In the winter it would rain a lot at night, clearing in the morning hours. I always called this phenomenon "Meter reader weather" which meant that it rains until you have to go out in it, then it thankfully goes away. Then you had time to get your readings collected during the break in the storm. That's what today's cloudburst reminded me of - meter reader weather. And the game went on as planned.

Game #37 view

My view of the right fielder

You can see how much of right field is hidden from this view. Any ball hit over the right fielder's head is obstructed from sight. But the seats have a face filling view of the whole stands.
