Let's Go Mets! JUNE 11 - HOME GAME #32 vs San Francisco Giants (34-26)

Jon Niese (3-6) takes on the Giants and Tim Lincecum (6-3) in what is supposed to be the hottest day of the year in New York. Today the Mets activated 2B Dilson Herrera and P Bobby Parnell from the disabled list.

32-29

Lets Go Mets! Really needing to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Giants, the Mets hung in with a walk off bottom of the ninth victory. Michael Cuddyer's single with two outs drove in Curtis Granderson with the winning run. Jon Niese and Tim Lincecum battled through the back and forth game but neither earned a decision. Jeurys Famillia earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning.

Game #32 view

Tonight I again watched the game with Faith And Fear In Flushing blogger Greg Prince. He is great to talk Mets with as his mental database is phenomenal. Two guys in the seats in front of us were discussing uniform numbers of Mets coaches, Rube Walker I think it was. Greg politely gave them the correct answer to the question but was met with doubt. Unfortunately for Greg these gentleman kept trying to "stump" him with other questions to which he answered all correctly. Except for "What is Angel Pagan's documented medical condition?" [it was he is ADHD]. I was humored by the guys persistence to find a question that couldn't be answered but I felt that the distraction from the game may have annoyed Greg a bit though he did not show it.

Actually, after talking later, Greg was correct about Pagan's medical condition also! Greg had told the questioner Pagan has Colitis [which is true], but he was traded to the Giants for Andres Torres, who was diagnosed with ADHD. So Greg knew his stuff, the wantabe Alex Trebeck had his catagories mixed up. I think of a twist on the old phrase "Better to be quiet and soak up baseball knowledge than open your mouth and show your lack of such". I can't remember how the Mets scored in the previous inning but Greg could tell me who had a sacrifice bunt that set up an important win in 1999. Greg is Amazin'.

And Greg correctly predicted Cuddyer's walk off hit three batters earlier. He wrote a very nice blog about our two days of watching the Giants and my story here. Thanks Greg for a couple fun nights together and so eloquently describing my journey.

Fantasy Camp pros and me

Mets Fantasy Camp coordinator Doug Dickey stopped by the seats to bring me a photo I had ordered. I had not seen him since opening day, it was good to briefly chat as he is a great guy. The photo has every former Mets player and coach from camp alongside some old guy in a Casey Stengel jersey.

Walk off hit by Michael Cuddyer

"John Smoltz was here tonight with MLB [Network] and he said 'How you doing?' I said, "We just got no-hit and my star pitcher just got his brains beat out. Our best two hitters are on the DL and we have 14 others to join them. How do you think I'm doing?' So it was a big win for us."
-- Terry Collins after the win
