Oh! Mr Porter

1937, UK, 84 mins, black and white. Dir: Marcel Vamel.
Stars: Will Hay, Moore Marriott, Graham Moffatt.

Blustering Will Hay finds himself the stationmaster of a railway station where no trains stop, in this classic British comedy. His staff, a doddery old clerk and a fat porter, are Moore Marriott and Graham Moffatt, who appear to great comic effect in most of Hay's films. He spruces the station up and books a train to transport the local football team. But the train and the team disappear. There are foul deeds afoot and it's down to Will and his not terribly brave lads to save the day. Great fun all round and includes Marriot's classic line: 'The next train's gone!'.
