Evil Dead II
1987, US, 85 mins, colour. Dir: Sam Raimi.
Stars:Bruce Campbell, Sarah Berry, Dan Hicks, Kassie Wesley.

Good clean fun for horror fans that ask for nothing more than a splattering of blood, dancing zombies and non-stop action (and also doesn't ask for any kind of sensible story line). The cast gives all they have got, which isn't terribly much, but suffices for the occasion and the film is all very tongue in cheek (or chainsaw in cheek). The cabin in the woods is still infested with the evil spirits and you may find their gruesome antics growing on you as the film goes on.
Event Horizon
1997, US/UK, 96 mins, colour. Dir: Paul Anderson.
Stars: Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson, Richard T Jones.

A gory science-fiction-cum-horror story, the Event Horizon being a deep space vessel researching faster-than-light travel. It has disappeared into outer space, but then years later it appears back in our solar system somewhere beyond Neptune. Laurence Fishburne and his crew are sent to return the vessel but find themselves trapped on a deserted ship at the gateway to hell. Standard haunted house-style hokum with a mad boffin role for Sam Neill as the ships creator. Well worth a look.
