Kelly Hagner finished off her high school career on Saturday as she won the shot put with a Section II best throw of 41-2.75 to make her a State and Federation champion in both the shot put and the discus. She won the discus on Friday with a 135-7 throw. Vicky Pasche threw 36-9.5 in the shot put. Jamie Stitt was second in the NYSPHSAA and 5th in the Federation with her 10-6 vault. Dana Razzano jumped 15-10.25 in the long jump.
Other Section II athletes brought home hardware from the state meet as well. Colonie's Bryan Susser ran 48.84 in the 400 to finish 3rd. His teammate Mike Gathen finished 4th with a 49.34. In the 800, Albany Academy's Mike Keefrider won the B title with a 1:56.06. Tyson Evenson of Averill Park was 4th in the A's with a 1:56.62 and Jim Tremblay of Colonie was 5th, also with a 1:56.62. Shaker's Justin Corelli pulled off the impossible double as he won the 3200 (9:20.42-3rd Fed) and the 3000 Steeplechase (9:38.11-2nd Fed). His teammate Louis DiNuzzo was 3rd in the steeple (9:52.89).
In the boys' relays, the Colonie 4x100 team of R.J and J.J Harvey, Susser, and Gathen was 3rd (43.08). Their 4x400 team of Brett Thompson, Gathen, Susser, and Tremblay was 6th (3:22.44). Shaker's 4x800 team of Scott Galinski, Keith Weiss, DiNuzzo, and Kevin Johnson ran 7:59.46 to finish 3rd in the NYSPHSAA and 4th in the Federation. Albany Academy's 4x800 team of Oliver Tassinari, Jon Phelps, Kevin Catlett, and Keefrider was 3rd in the B's with a 8:10.64.
On the girls' side, Jen Kramer was 3rd in NYSPHSAA in the 1500 with a 4:38.39. She ended up 3rd in the Federation as well. Katie Twarog won both the NYSPHSAA and Federation title with her 9:50.25 in the 3000. The Colonie 4x800 team of Nicole Susser, Twarog, Kramer, and Ashleigh Bordwell ran 9:12.26 to win the NYSPHSAA title. The were 2nd in the Federation to Boys and Girls.

The first day of competition at the New York State Track and Field Championships in Liverpool saw three Shen athletes compete. Senior Kelly Hagner was first in the discus preliminaries. Senior Dana Razzano was 22nd in the long jump finals and sophomore Jamie Stitt vaulted 9-9 to finish tied for third in the pole vault prelims.
