This meet was for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders and there was no team scoring. Teams in attendance included Shaker, Colonie, Saratoga, Guilderland, and Averill Park.
In the 1600, 8th grader Ryan Gaedje ran a PR of 5:08 to finish third. Gaedje came back to run the 2000m steeplechase and finished 2nd in that event.
Phil Roach finished 4th in the 3200 and 8th grader Scott Mindel was 1st in the 800 with a PR of 2:12. 9th grader John Hagstrand, who ran the 4x800 at the Schenectady Invy on May 4th and will run at the Colonie Relays on May 6th, finished 2nd in the 400 with a 55.6. The Colonie 4x100 team highlighted by Pat McConville finished first.
In the field events, 8th grader Nick Jones won the pole vault with an 11-7 effort. He came back to run a 56.1 anchor leg of the winning 4x400 team with Hagstrand, Robert Smythe, and Mindel. The team posted a time of 3:51. The 4x100 team also finished 1st.
With their excellent performances, these Shen underclassmen surely showed that they are ready to take over the program in the years to come.
