Manchester United 3-0 Everton
Everton have been beaten again at Old Trafford but, unlike other games at the Theatre of Dreams, this was a most unjust outcome. The toffees battled until four minutes before the end - but two goals from Paul Scholes and a Ruud van Nistelrooy penalty gave the match a very harsh scoreline. David Moyes Selected the side who defeated Fulham 2-0 and they were head to head with Manchester United up to the last 6 minutes were all fell apart. Everton played very well, and earned a couple of chances, two of which was when Thomas Gravesen crashed a direct free-kick just over the bar as early as the 9th minute and Kevin Campbell fired an angled shot into the side netting late in the first period. During the second period, David Unsworth curled another free-kick over the bar and Tomasz Radzinski forced Barthez into a smart save with a well-struck snapshot. Manchester United did come close when David Beckham hit the top of the bar. Everton hearts were broken and spirit was shattered with just 4 minutes remaining. A loose ball fell to the feet of Paul Scholes and he drilled it past a helpless Wright. From there it was all down hill... David Weir's manhandling of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer resulted in a penalty expertly converted by Ruud van Nistelrooy and then Scholes , with virtually the last kick of the game, made it 3-0 with a rising drive from the edge of the box. Three goals in 4 minutes, aswell as a cruel sending off. After the match Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted "That wasn't a 3-0 scoreline. No, that was a false scoreline and it doesn't tell the story. It was a great game of football." He also said "Credit to Everton. That's the best Everton side that's been here for years. They came here with fantastic belief in themselves. Their front players were a handful all night and we had to really perform well to win that game." After all that, Everton will have to prepair to play Champions, Arsenal who are currently sitting top of the table. My Personal MOTM: Joseph Yobo, for controlling the Everton defence. He also stoped countless threats from Ryan Giggs. 3-0 Doesn't tell the story... |
