Thomas Gravesen![]() Born: 11/03/76 Birthplace: Vejle Previous Clubs: Vejle BK, Hansa Rostock, SV Hamburg Transfer Date: 24/07/00 Transfer Fee: £2,500,000
Thomas admitted following his £2.5 million transfer to Goodison Park that he was only interested in joining Everton, despite receiving numerous offers from elsewhere on the continent. He cut his professional teeth at his hometown club before moving to the Bundesliga where he spent a season at Hansa Rostock before a move to Hamburg in season 1998/99, making 48 appearances and scoring 4 goals before his Premiership switch. A hard-working, tough tackling midfielder, the Dane has been a valuable addition to the Blues' midfield department, however, he was reported to be leaving after a well-publicised spat with former manager Walter Smith. However, after offering to an apology to the former Blues boss, the pair were reconciled and the Dane played an important role in the centre of Everton's midfield. A full Danish international, the former Hamburg star was part of Denmark's squad for the European Championships in Holland and Belgium in 2000 and enjoyed an impressive World Cup in Japan and South Korea in 2002. Thomas was voted as 'Denmark's Player of the Tournament' and was reportedly being a £5m target for Aston Villa. However, Thomas is happy to stay and Goodison, and new manager David Moyes is more than happy to see him stay.
