Everton 1-0 Charlton
Everton have climbed up to 4th in the league, with yet again another win!. Although the single goal by Radzinski was enought to clinch the win the outcome really could, and should, have been more as The Blues created sufficient openings to have strolled to their success, instead of putting the supporters through a nervous closing few minutes. Everton finally found the back of the net when Thomas Gravesen played Radzinski in on 31 minutes and he steered a well-placed low shot past Kiely and into the net. This was probably the most difficult of a trio of chances he had! David Moyes decided to stick with Joseph Yobo and Alan Stubbs at the back, and Thomas Gravesen was brought back from injury to replace Tobias Linderoth who was injured during the win against Newcastle in the Worthington Cup. Everton started well and had the game’s first goalscoring opportunity in the 3rd minute, but Mark Pembridge’s low effort was off target. This was one of many chances to come for Everton. Thomas Gravesen’s rising shot cleared the bar, and the combative Dane was also close with another couple of shots from distance, The chances continued after the break, with Tony Hibbert stinging Kiely’s hands with a superbly struck 25-yard shot in the 54th minute. Radzinski was on fire!, he tormented the Charlton defence all game... Radzinski danced his way past a couple of Charlton challenges on the left, but when he’d done the hard part, he then blazed his final effort high and wide. Straight after that chance, Kevin Campbell teed him up for yet another chance but yet again he missed the target. After all this the Canadian star was replaced by the talk of the nation Wayne Rooney, and Radzinski thoroughly deserved the thunderous ovation he got when he left the field. Unlike other games, Rooney did not score within a few minutes of coming onto the pitch, instead he was to receive a yellow card when he ploughed wrecklessly into Paul Konchesky. Charlton began to come into the game late, Scot Parker ended a 70-yards run by sliding the ball narrowly wide of the upright, leaving Everton Manager David Moyes furious with his defence, and straight after that Kevin Lisbie was inches too high from the edge of the box. The toffees held the little pressure they recieved, to make yet another record... This time it was being the first time since the premiership ahs began, Everton have strung 4 League wins together, aswell as 2 wins in the Worthington Cup. Many fans are starting to believe Evertons season will end in success, with a possible Champions League place!, but im sure David Moyes will want to take it step at a time. |
