Physiology: Like Elayans, Mistelareia look on the surface very much like humans. Their average between five and half to six and a half feet tall with a width across their shoulders or one and a half foot. Their eyes are either brown, blue or green and they grow hair all over their bodies in the samw way as Humans do, colouation being either blonde, brown, or black with a few sporting red, blue or green hair naturally.
On the surface at least, they look almost identical to humans except for their huge majestical wings that arc out of their back and allow them fly. Each wing has a span or around seven to eight foot, though unless in flight, it is rarely fully spread. Feathers adorn these wings and these can be of varyig colour from white to black, yellow to green, blue to red. In addition, the patterning varies also, with some sporting stripped wings, others wings with coloured tips on the feather and the list goes on. Feather patterning and colouration is known to be due to genetics.
Their bone structure is hollow like that of birds and though this means their bones are weaker than that of a Human, it does mean that they are incredible light. Even with their large wings, most Mistelareia wieigh about half of what an equivilant human would.
Mistelareia have larger appetites than Humans as well, because of a far more efficient digestive tract that works quickly to create energy for flight. They breath and pump blood around their bodies at slightly quicker rates than humans as well and their blood is a couple of degrees higher in temperature. However, Mistelareia have to be a little bit more careful about what they digest because they possess less advanced kidneys and liver than Humans. In fact, their kidneys are about half the size of a Humans and the rest of the space is taken up with a much larger noradrenal gland.
Mistelareia skin colour varies as with that of Humans, perhaps even more so. Some Mistelareia have brilliant white skin (often coupled with great night vision) which indicate a genetic ancestry of night time flyers. Others have much darker skin and less developed night vision, denoting those who's genetical ancestors were daytime flyers.
Mistelareia reproduce like Humans via sexual intercourse and the female carries the child for a period of just under 10 months. Births are usually singular and twins are rarer than it is with Humans. The baby Mistelareia is often born with their featherless wings wrapped around them and even though these are tightly bound, Mistelareia births are slightly more painful than Human births due to the increased size of the child. The young take around 15-19 sols to mature and by the age of five, most Mistelareia will have learnt to fly.
Like Humans, Mistelareia hair grows grey wth age and their skin wrinkles. Though there is less energy loss in elder Mistelareia when compared to elderly Humans, old Mistelareia do tend to fly a lot less than they used to.
Mistelareia live on average about 80 sols but some have been known to live upto 130 sols naturally. Females tend to be shorter and slighter in frame than males. On the whole, Males tend to be the more aggressive of the two sexes but both are usually very peaceful and passive. Even females suffering with PMT are calmer (this lasts between 2-5 days and occurs once in every 29 days) than Human females going through the same thing.
Mistelareia possess near enough the same level of intelligence as Humans and can be just as igenious in ideas. Their organs are very simalar to that of Humans and can be just as easily repaired or replaced in the event of damage.
History: The Mistelareia are one of the oldest races in the galaxy, discovering FTL travel before any off the alien races made the crossing to colonise C69. Before this however, the Mistelareia had a long history of as rich as any other race in their pre-space days.
Now one can pin point an exact time, but for a lot of Mistelareia history prior to discovering space travel, the Mistelareia were split into a number of fractions called Talacan's. Talacan's were not just about terriotry however but also about looks, for all the members of a Talacan would share the same wing colour. Recorded Mistelareia history begins with the existance of just thirty three Talacan's, but as time continues on with crossbreeding between the Talacan's new wing colouration's and patterns were created and new Talacan's were born.
These Talacan's would normally live in peace with one another, but sometimes war would errupt between two or more Talacan's and the fighting would be intense. The structure of the Talacan's however remained the same all through these times, right from the earliest times, through medievil times and upto the discovery of FTL travel.
The Mistelareia in their Talacan alliances began to colonise the surrounding star systems to their home systems. Yet, it was not more than 100 sols after discovering FTL travel that Latamoth fleet settled near to Mistelareia space. Negotiations began between the two peoples and in 80'782 SC, the two decided to merge together to form the Latareia Federation. At this point, the social structures of the Mistelareia were reformed and the idea of Talacan's were abolished.
The rest, as they say, is history. When the Resbinarge Empire struck the Federation (see Resbinarge's history), many Mistelareia fled south, forming independant colonies or seek asylum in Psi Omas. Later on, when the oppression of the Resbinarge Empire got too much, Mistelareia were some of the more prominant members to be involved in the Planica / Plantia rebellion. Through this rebellion, Mistelareia became a major race in Planica / Plantia as well as Resbinarge. The final major movement of Mistelareia was during the Delta Feareon / Resbinarge war. Intially, a number of Mistelareia became left behind in Delta Feareo after Delta Feareo drove Resbinarge out of Delta Feareo in the late 97'000's, but more Mistelareia became members of Delta Feareo during the last millenia when they transfered from Delta Feareon occupied systems in Reabinarge to Delta Feareo itself.
Mistelareia within the Nations:
Delta Feareo: The Mistelareia here are not present in any major significant numbers, but there are enough to count them as a minor race. Famalies ended up in Delta Feareo either when Delta Feareo pushed Resbinarge out of their terriotry or during the push into Resbinarge itself by Delta Feareo in 99'000's. The Mistelareia are now considered jut another Delta Feareon race by the rest of the populace and Mistelareia hold down jobs just like any other citizen of the nation.
Planica / Plantia: Fleeing the constraints of one imperium, it seems odd that they would create a second imperial like nation. But here, it is the Mistelareia who are firmly in control and it the Mistelareia make up much of the upper heirarchy of the nation. Though the Planica point of view leads to a kinder view on their position themselves and towards others, the Plantia view leaves many 'noble' Mistelareia to be just as bad as the Humans who once controlled the Resbinarge Empire.
Resbinarge: Once an oppressed under race in the Resbinarge Empire, the strikes by Delta Feareo and the way this has changed the face of the Empire has lead to a change in this position, leaving Mistelareia to be viewed just as much an equal as any other race in the nation.
The Independant Nations: Many times throughout history Mistelareia have sought to break the yoke that held them to the Resbinarge Empire. Though most flights from the Empire led them to other nations, others set up independant colonies throughout the surrounding area to the Empire. These Mistelareia colonies have thrived. With the growth though of the independant nations, many of these colonies were amongst the first to sign up, especially as they felt threaten by the chance Resbinarge would try to reclaim them. The Independant Alliance claims to have the largest number of Mistelareia, while the League of Independance and Neutrality Alliance both have a number of Mistelareia counted amongst their populace.
Mistelareia Crossbreeds:
Elareia: (Elayan - Mistelareia) Elayan's can cross breed with the Mistelareia though the result can often be mix. Half the time, the child is born wingless with the rest of their traits mixed from both races (of note, some Elareia can end up looking like spitting images of humans, though their internal make up is normally a lot different) while the other half of the time, the child ends up looking like a winged Elayan (with perhaps one or two other Mistelareia traits). Once again, their life spans and rate to mature can vary dramatically.
Humans: Though Humans and Mistelareia can cross breed naturally, the result is nearly always a complete Mistelareia or complete Human, though sometimes one races trait will cross over in the offspring. On rare occasions, the result can turn out be a twisted parody, with misformed wings.
Mistfell: (Mistelareia - Efell) Even rarer than Efell/Human or Efell/Elayan couplings is an Efell mating with a Mistelareia to produce a Mistfell. Once again, these only have wings half the time. Efell genetics also proves to be quite strong and feather colour normally ends up the same green/brown colour as Efell fur. Mistfell normally have traits from both their parents.
