Physiology: A Arthropod like race that have some very bizarre traits. Quite short when compared to other races, they have an exo-skeleton of hard cartiledge shell which offers a high degree of protection. They are not extremely bulky either and they do not posess brains at all, instead having a highly evolved nervous system that acts for their brain and gives them their sentience.

The average Atiliak stands around four and a half foot tall, though they possess a stooped like appearance. There head has a snout like appearance and ends in a deadly set of pointed teeth and mandibles. Their eyes appear like narrow red slits and their voice has a growling like quality to it.

They walk on two legs that are very disjointed in appearance and have short stubby tails. Their skin / shell colouration is off a dark purple / black appearance. They then have a normal two limbs that end in large hands with large double jointed fingers which in themselves end in large sharp claws. Along their back however is the real main unique identity of this race.

Atiliak possess two sets of six long spines that spread out from their back for about three foot and are capable of moving. These spines are capable of conducting electricity and Atiliak bodies can build up a large electrical charge naturally. These spines then are capable of firing this energy off in a decissive bolt of electrical energy.

To other Atiliak, unless absoloutely bombarded with this electrical energy, the spines do nothing more than stun them. However, there is enough energy in these spines to overload electrical equipment and to seriousily injury or kill other races.

These charge spines however can be trimmed back, robbing the Atiliak of this ability. The spines do grow back with time however, but in order to associate with other races without fear, some Atiliak keep their spines trimmed to put others at ease.

To be able to produce this large amount of electrical charge, Atiliak need to keep to special diet of enzymic and acidic soups that can be found naturally on their homeworld, though this can be artifically created. If an Atiliak does not feed regularly on this soup like substance, then they can suffer all sorts of delibating conditons.

Atiliak sometimes appear like an aggressive race always fighting amongst themselves to outsiders. However, the electrical bolts they throw at each other to them is nothing more than the equivilant of a Humans friendly punch to a mate and as a whole the Atiliak race gets on quite well with one another. The Atiliak are also capable of quite a bit of self-restraint and normally know not to greet other races by firing electricity at them.

The female Atiliak is larger than the male but both have the same sort of attitudes in life. Females lay clutches off around 50-150 eggs every five sols after they mature. These eggs need to be fertilised by a male within fourty hours of being laid and each one is only a centimetre in diameter. These eggs than take eleven months to grow to their full size of around 40cm before hatching the newly born. Atiliak take quite a bit of time to grow up, though they can start firing off electrical bolts within the first sol of growth.

Older Atiliak loose their energy and their ability to hold charge. Their electrical bolts grow weak and they become less accurate when firing them off.

History: A world of electrical storms and deadly predators is the Atiliaks homeworld. The Atiliak lived in a pretty much primative state throughout their pre-FTL history. It was only with the settling of the nation of Cyran in their neighbourhood that the Atiliak got introduced to the finer abilities of technology.

The people of Cyran made themselves known to the Atiliak within a few sols of colonisation and brought the Atiliak upto to a higher level of technology. The Atiliak appreciated this and joined with the nation of Cyran Dor when it was formed, providing a powerful solider for their armies as well as a race with a keen intelligence.

Atiliak within the Nations:

Cyran Dor: The Atiliak have great respect amongst Cyran Dor. The Atiliak are virtually exclusive to this nation (very few see the need to strike it out as independant) and are considered to be great tacticians and fine soliders. Their electrical abilities give them a great edge when it comes to combat.

Atiliak Crossbreeds:

Deliak: (Deleeban - Atiliak) Though on the other side of the galaxy to each other, this occurance has been documented. Deliak usually look like a cross between the two races, though they either have the deleeban six limbs, or four limbs and the charge spines of the Atiliak. Some unusual Deliak actually have the six limbs though, but the middle two limbs can gain electrical charge like an Atiliak's charge spines.
