The Black Zero is a heavily converted Myracron rescue vessel. Built by the Delta Feareon Mega-Corporation Marquirk Industries, the Myracron is an old design that was intially designed for deep space rescue and salvage operations. This class was built with a sufficient cargo bay to retrieve smaller items from rescue sites, with an internal winch and a large tow cable at the back. They could hold a total complement of 14 persons, though they would often have a crew of only 6, the rest of their cabin spaces being used for people they rescued.

These vessels were capable of FTL travel using Dimensional Accelerators to push the ships beyond the light barrier and also featured high precision engines for both sub-light space travel and atmospheric travel.

These days the Myracron class is no longer built by Marquirk Industries. Production seized in 99'852 SC. Out of a total production run 125'000 craft, under 5'000 are believed to still be in use. Out of this 5'000 vessels, only 1'200 are still used in active deep space search and rescue. The remainder have been sold on to private owners who convert them for a variety of uses.

The Black Zero is one such vessel that has been converted for other uses. Wasting away in a junk yard, Morcheck purchased the craft for a mere fifty hundred credits, a very cheap price for any star ship, but then again, at the time all she was good for was junk. However, taking her to some his most trusted (though less ruptable) ship engineering workshops, he had her lovingly restored and converted for his own use. The following is a list of what has been to the Black Zero:

The first step was a complete rebuild of the ships engines. The old atmospheric engines were in still remarkably good shape, so he had these cleaned out, fixed up and firing again. The Black Zero is still capable of thus hovering and lift vertical loads in excess of some 250 tonnes in a normal 1g gravity zone.

For the sub-light engines, he had the dimensional accelerators that previousily allowed FTL travel (these were off no use to anyone) and instead replaced them with some black market Ion drive units with radiation padding. The result was, though slightly less maneauveurable at sub-light speeds than what she was used to, she can now pull of a forward acceleration that exceeds some twenty times greater than what the Myracron craft are normally capable off. However, the radiation shielding does need regular maintenance work to ensure that the whole ship is not flooded with dangerous ion radiation.

Where the old maneaveur engines were fitted Morcheck had a second hand Resbinarge Hyper Space Tunnel Drive fitted. Though efficient, being of second hand quality it has a tendancy to have the occasional hiccup, usually displacing the target point by a few kilometres or allowing minor temporal displacement to occur.

The battery was next to be replaced. Normally, this is stored in front of the maneauver engines at the back (where the hyper space tunnel drive is now) but wanting more cargo space and needing a higher level off energy output to fuel the ion drives and hyper space tunnel drive, Morcheck had this completely removed. Instead, he raised the floor of the ship by six inches in the living section of the vessel and three inches in the cargo bay and had installed a large series of under floor long life batteries. Though making the ceiling height in the living section of the ship only six foot, the slight warmth that the under floor batteries give off help reduce the need for energy to be spent in heating the vessel. These batteries allow the Black Zero to operate in space for upto four weeks without need for recharge during which she can make a total of five hyper space tunnel jumps.

The hull was next to get reviewed and Morcheck took the Black Zero to the Aflos pirate base for this to be done. Dented and damaged extensively, the hull was patched up and covered with carbo-titanium plating, increasing the ships armour ability. In addition, he had the pirate engineers at the base install fold out 100mm missile racks on each side of the vessel that are covered with sensor dampening material to effectively hide this armament from detection. Each rack can hold a total of six missiles.

The front of the ship also recieved a set of continuous beam firing laser cannons to the nose and rear wings, though these have not been hidden and Morcheck has aquired the necessary security permits to carry these in case of the need for the ship to defend itself within which ever nations the ship visits.

The final modification to the vessels hull was a set of fold out solar panels in the event that the ship should run out of power inside a solar system, allowing the ship some energy to keep functional.

Inside the ship, two of the quarters have been converted into a space room of sorts with an armoury box for the more dangerous ammunition to be stored and and an office for himself with a large exterior view window. The rest of the quarters have just been rebuilt, allowing for a total of 10 crew, that's two singular rooms (for Morcheck and the pilot) and four rooms with bunks for two people built into them. Likewise, other than the raised floor, the kitchen / messroom, the toilets and the airlock have only needed a touch up with some new cooking equipment purchased to replace the old nanowave.

The life support system has also been modified. The old compressed oxygen tanks were taking up too much space, so Morcheck purchased a set of Lafe fungal conversion tanks. These smaller tanks have a special fungal mold growing inside them that are very efficient at recycling Carbon Dioxide back into oxygen. The plus side is a smaller life support and air system that is in continuous operation with out much need for mechanical assistance. The down side is that every three months someone has to physically clean these tanks out of excess mold.

Any other element of the vessel has been just been repaired and touched up with new paint where needed. The electronics currently remain the same (though Morcheck wants to upgrade the computer system sometime soon), the shields and sensors function as always aboard this class of ship (again, open to review and upgrade sometime soon).
