After Lisa sends a thoughtful letter to the International Olympic Committee, they decide to hold the next Olympics in Springfield. During a ceremony to make the official announcement, Bart offends the officials with an insulting comedy routine. The offer is rescinded. To teach his students about respect, Principal Skinner makes each of them perform twenty hours of community service. Meanwhile, homer tries to sell off a thousand springs that he purchased to make into Springfield Olympic mascots. Bart’s community service assignment is the Springfield Retirement Castle. Disapproving of the seniors’ humdrum lifestyle, Bart takes them from the home and gets them all to take a boat ride together. Soon, Lisa arrives and scolds Bart for removing the retirees from the home. Bart shows Lisa what a good time they’re having, but Lisa reminds them of life at the home. Meanwhile, back at the house, Marge has told Homer to get rid of the springs, and he opts to flush them down the toilet. Mr. Burns’s ship accidentally crashes through the seniors’ tour boat. As the boat sinks, the seniors blame Bart for the misfortune. But Grampa stands up for him, saying that Bart gave them the best time they have had in twenty years. The boat sinks and then bounces back to the surface—as it turns out, they keep landing on the mound of springs Homer flushed. |
