At a local steakhouse, Homer feels insulted when a friendly trucker named Red advises him not to try to eat the largest steak on the menu. Homer challenges Red to a steak-eating duel. In the end, Red wins the contest, but subsequently dies of beef poisoning. Feeling responsible, Homer decides to take Red’s truck and make his last delivery run to Atlanta for him. Marge goes on an adventure of her own: She and Lisa go to by a musical doorbell from Senor Ding-Dong’s Doorbell Fiesta. After installing the bell, they wait for someone to come to their door and try it. No one comes. Finally, when they try the doorbell themselves, the mechanism jams, and it plays its tune over and over again. On the road, Homer falls asleep while driving and the truck miraculously drives itself to the next truck stop. When Homer relates this story to some other truckers, they show him that all the rigs are equipped with auto-drive systems that do all the driving for the trucker. They also tell Homer to keep it a secret. Homer immediately brags to non-truckers about the auto-drive system. The truckers he met find out about Homer’s boasting and create a convoy to stop him. Through luck and hapless driving, Homer manages to elude them and make Red’s delivery. At home, the Simpson house is surrounded by an angry mob, sick of hearing the family’s malfunctioned doorbell. Just before Chief Wiggum shoots it, Senor Ding-Dong arrives, fixing it in the nick of time. |
