Journal0003 - Wondercon?Journal Entry: 0003Date: April 21, 2001. Saturday morning cartoons... Ahhh... Woke up really early to watch, like 6 AM. Found that out that the tv doesn't pick up the WB channel. (sulks)I missed the Jackie Chan Adventures and Batman Beyond. But we did have Fox though. That means only one thing (well two if you count Digimon): BIG GUY AND RUSTY! Yah!!! Saloppe woke up around 9:00AM or so. In fact, it was just so the time of Los Luchadores. That's on heck of a weird a** show. She knows the characters too. It's.. unsettling.
Imagine two young, lonely (and desperate! although not to desperate to actually put ads in newspapers or anything like that) whose only source of happiness is escapism into the world of comics and strange universes where the world is a disc and is carried by four elephants who are themselves shouldered by a turtle. Imagine their delight at discovering a show that boasts such unique and likable characters with smart writing and witticisms. Now imagine the heartbreak when they find out that NASCAR is being aired instead of Big Guy and Rusty. (sobs) You don't understand our PAIN!!! Nobody does! Bastards. Then we went out for lunch. I got a window seat and I guess I do fidget a lot when I'm in one place cos I kept looking over Saloppe's shoulders outside. It was funny cos she kept turning round to see what was up. Like the one time when I noticed this cute guy tying up his bike. Lucky for us, the guy came into the restaurant. Unfortunately, he was sitting where I couldn't see him (but Saloppe could). Then we ran for the comics store where I picked up an extra copy of Superboy (ooh tell you about Superboy later), JLA Black Baptism and the bookstore to pick up the latest Pratchett (European version! - American version still not available). Because we suck at time management, we arrived at the Wondercon late. Ugh, we missed Devin Grayson too. But we did spend some time in the movie previews. The Final Fantasy movie rocks! The animation is just so spectacular. I was gobsmacked from beginning to end. And Ming-Na Wen as the protagonist Aki! Yeah!
I kept giggling because my friend Akie would be horrified that her ex in the movie is voiced by Alec Baldwin. (snickers) Akie has a boyfriend. There was this one movie, some trashy teen vampire flick everyone booed. Forgot what it was called. Really dumb stuff. But Atlantis, the new summer movie by Disney looked cool as well. Not as cool as FF but cool for Disney. And this movie Cats and Dogs was the funniest. It's about the war between cats and dogs. It's live action but it's so hilarious to see this one dumb dog get beaten up by ninja kitties! And everyone's soo cute! After we filed out of the ballroom and got some crappy merchandise for free, I dragged Saloppe to the seminar on self-publishing comics. LOL. Saloppe owes me. Big time.
We met "Mr. Bulge-in-leather-pants-man". Not only did I learn a lot (giggles) yeah.. I learnt a lot. 'Specially when he leaned forward... We even made a song about him, you know? It's quite scary. But hey, who cares? It was late when the seminar ended so we went back to Berkeley. Ate Mexican cos Saloppe had one of her cravings again (what is she, pregnant?) and picked up supplies for fudge. I tell you. Never EVER make fudge from a microwave. NEVER EVER make fudge AT ALL. It's not worth it. There was all sorts of sh*t in the kitchen by the time we were done.
But... we got some copies of a copy of BIG GUY AND RUSTY WOO HOO! Yeah! Yeah.. it was the perfect end to a weird day. END DAY TWO |
