The Black Tarot was designed over a period of several years, during which time the artist studied the Tarot and sought a deeper understanding of its images through their design. The resulting images are a fusion of a modernized interpretation of the pre-Waite Tarot images and the artists own philosophical ideals. The 22 images, when placed in order from “The Fool” to “Lilith”, suggest a personal journey of spiritual discovery and progression. The images of the Tarot, while traditionally associated with divination, have been used for a variety of esoteric purposes. The artist of the Black Tarot theorizes that the images were designed originally to record and pass on metaphysical ideals from the fall of the Roman Empire so that they would survive the Christian purge that was to follow.
