The Witch
Drawing the Witch suggests the value of intuition over reason. You have an instinctive awareness as to how to handle the issues you face, and need only to look inwardly for the answers to your conflicts. Others may urge you to actions which conflict with these instincts, but your wisdom will win out in the end. You may need to take time to contemplate your options before choosing a course of action, allowing yourself the opportunity to weigh your choices without the influence of others to muddy the waters. The Witch is passive in her efforts, taking the action of others and redirecting it subtly, rather than acting directly herself.
The image is of a young woman, apparently of the same mystic order as the Magus. The tools of the Magus are no longer depicted, instead the Witch’s tool is her internal wisdom, a primal wisdom which she bares silently, but for all to profit from. The Magus held the sword aloft in activity, while the Witch uses the sword as a screen to obfuscate her most potent weapon. The duality of lunar and solar influences is also present in the two censors, now balanced and near her center, instead of being “over her head” as in the Magus.
The structure of the image creates two forms, a division between the primal and spiritual self. Her legs and the censor stands form a rectangular base, a symbol of materiality, as are the skulls which form her throne. Her upper body forms an upward pointed triangle, suggesting a spiritual focus supported by this primal base. At the center of the image is her genitalia, suggesting wisdom derived from primal exploration.
The traditional meaning of this image is intuition, the search for hidden things, and the need for silence.
