The Chariot
Drawing the Chariot that there are opposing drives in the individual’s life. These drives are necessary, but must be carefully balanced and cautiously managed in order to derive any benefit. If this control can be maintained, the individual will be propelled forward by the resulting exchange between the drives; however, if control is lost, the opposing drives threaten to tear the individual and his efforts apart. The Chariot carries the individual aloft, but only if the individual is vigilant and disciplined.
The image is of a man upon a machine, flying high above a city. The machine has two engines. These engines are actually driving in opposite directions. The Charioteer must keep a firm grip on the controls in order to keep his machine aloft, or else it will tear itself to pieces.
The structure of this image repeats the structure underlying previous, that of the triangle of spirit resting upon a square material base. In this image, the solar and lunar discs, the opposing forces, are represented by the engines within material base. This suggests that these urges must be kept in submission to the higher self.
The traditional meaning of this image is triumph over obstacles, success in business, and travel.
