The Japanese were, at a time, the only gamers really interested in RPG's.  After the British release of this game in 1997, however, that was destined to change.

The sheer scale of the game is immediately apparent through the intro movie, as you are shown an awe inspiring view of the city of Midgar. After you are shown a slightly confusing image of a woman getting covered in green stuff, the camera pans out, and only then does the game proudly show its title.
100 or so hours in and I should be spitting at the screen and screaming every time I see the death screen, but no, it was one of those rare moments when a game simply won't let you go, it keeps on giving you just enough incentive to play on, if only just to see the next awesome FMV.
Unfortunately, at

the time the game was released, the Playstation was just at the beginning of its life, and graphics were, let's say, not as pleasing to the eye. If you could see past this minor set-back, however, you could see the quality of the game as soon as the first text was read.
The only complaint I have ever had with a Final Fantasy game is that they are a little too easy, and some parts may be a bit too corny and uninteresting. For example, when Tifa and Cloud fall into the Lifestream. I know it is essential to the story, but it's half an hour of nothing, really. Other than that, the game is perfect.
If anyone has a complaint about this game then I can assure them that they are mentally insane. Too corny, but overall this game is one that will rarely be bettered in any genre.

GRAPHICS:8/10.
I know they are chunky, but at the time they were brilliant. The FMV's were the best EVER. Better than anything before it, but was surpassed in beauty by Final Fantasy VIII.

SOUND: 10/10
A brilliant music score helps this game to its brilliance.  They should make an album. Stunning.

They could possibly have been tweaked a little, but still a gem. This is something that we can overlook.
