Final fantasy IX. Tipped to be the greatest RPG of all time. Tipped to, once and for all, destroy all competition from anyone for the RPG title. Squaresoft were going to destroy rivals like Alundra and Grandia with one fatal blow: an RPG to out RPG all others.
Unfortunately, it couldn't quite manage it. In my opinion, it overtook VIII, but couldn't quite catch VII. It is, though, a fantastcally magical game which took me over 50 hours to complete. Each character has his or her own ability, which is returning to the old school. It was more like VI than VII, but everyone compared it with VII anyway. I suppose every RPG is compared with Final Fantasy VII, because it set a standard.

Right from the enchanting opening sequence, which shows you four main characters in one go, through to the moment it proudly anounces its title after the James Bond-a-like intro event, it simply fills your mind with questions. Especially the bit where the boat is being thrown around the water for some reason.

It isn't quite as captivating as VII, but is far less complicated and easier to get into than VIII. If you're a fan of the series, then it is very likely that you've already got this in your collection, But, if you're not a huge RPG fan, you'll still be enchanted by the stunning graphics and endearing storyline.

Queen Brahne of Alexandria has begun using highly-advanced magical weapons to terrorise neighbouring kingdoms. Her daughter, Princess Garnet, runs away from the castle and befriends a group of good-hearted bandits lead by a skilled thief, Zidane, who intends to end the evil queen's desire to dominate the world. Soon after embarking on their quest, they discover that the queen's threats merely cover a far more sinister plot. For the sake of mankind, Zidane and his friends must put an end to the queen's reign before she and the evil forces that accompany her can carry out the deadly plan.
