On the way back to the palace we saw two figures leaning against a tree. When we came into their view, they started talking really fast to each other and what looked like trying to calm down. Neal and Merric rode ahead to see if they needed help.
Merric came running back. “I think they’re friends of yours,” Merric said grinning.
“What do you mean?” Sarah asked.
“Go and see...,” He was grinning devilishly.
So Sarah and I trotted ahead and when the two girls’ faces came into view Sarah and I jumped off our horses and ran ahead and enveloped them in hugs. The two girls were shocked to see strangers hugging them. When we took a step back they realized who we were.
“Sarah?”
“Leah?”
“Sara?”
“Kelly?"
“Sarah!”
“Leah!”
“Sara!”
“Kelly!"
“Sarah!”
“Leah!”
“Sara!”
“Kelly!"
We looked at each other and started all talking at once. “Rocky horror picture show déjà vu.” I chimed in.
“So they are friends of yours...,” Merric chimed in.
“Oh no we’re not their friends they just like running up to strangers and hugging them.” Sara said mater a factly.
Merric turned red, and walked away.
We tried to figure out how the heck they got here, and realized Sarah had been giving them a ride home.
“Can we finish this at the palace?” Neal asked. “It looks like it’s going to storm.”
“Okay hold on, we can put Sara on Leah’s horse with the bags and Kelly and I could double on mine, and Leah can ride behind Neal. Do you mind Neal?” I glared at Sarah. If only.. I thought, as Sarah and Kel exchanged glances. What were they cooking up.
“No I don’t mind.” Neal sounded almost as embarrassed as I felt.
“Well, then let’s get goin’” Sarah cheerfully said.
I do have to thank her later though, it was a really nice ride.
Later on at the palace, Sara was camping in Sarah’s room and Kelly was in mine. We all got together and wanted to go in to see the King together, but Sara and Kelly went in without us.
“He wants to see you and them separately,” Numair had told us.
Sarah and I waited for what seemed like an eternity before they called us in.
“They went back to your rooms,” Numair informed us.
“What took so long Numair?” Sarah asked.
“Oh that. We tested them for the gift.”
“And...,” Sarah and I both chimed in.
“They both have it in more than ample supply.” Allanna chimed in.
“So what are they going to do?” I wondered.
“Sara wanted to become Lindhall’s apprentice because that is where most of her gift is located, plants and animals. Kelly’s was almost the same so if Lindhall doesn’t mind they will become his apprentices,” said Numair.
“How come all of you know so many of our secrets?” Jon wanted to know.
“Uhh...,” Sarah and I didn’t have an answer for that.
“They said they found it in some books, is that true?” Numair asked.
“Well, yeah that is where we found them,” Sarah said. Good thing too because I still didn’t know what to say.
“Sarah, I need you to help me with a spell.” Numair said dragging her away.
“Would you go over some of the text you translated this week?” Jon asked. I had gotten used to him by now and wasn’t so week kneed.
“Sure.”
By the time Sarah and I got back to the rooms it was almost time for dinner. I guess Sarah had left them money because both of them had two dresses.
“So what’cha been doin’?” I asked as I walked in the door.
“Just rearranging a bit. They moved two beds in here. Apparently we’re to share.” Sara stated.
“I hear you’ve both got the gift.”
“Yeah, I know and lots of it.”
“Who’s idea was it to become Lindhall’s apprentices?” I asked.
“That would be me, uh huh,” Sara chimed in.
As she was talking Sarah walked in. “Numair’s spell kept me longer than I thought, sorry.” Sarah apologized.
“Numair’s apprentice?” Sara lifted an eyebrow. “I gotta hear this story.” Sara and Sarah walked into the other room talking.
“So what have we been doing Miss Kelly?” I asked.
“Oh, nothing really. We got new clothes. Moved some stuff...”
“Did they say when you’d start with Lindhall?”
“I think we’re to meet him tomorrow.”
‘He’s really nice. You’ll like him-,” A loud bell interrupted our conversation. “Time for dinner.” I said cheerfully as all of us walked out of the room.
