"I'm sorry there's nothing that I can safely do." Duke Barid broke off. "You just have to wait for your vision to be restored."
'Damn, now what am I supposed to do?' I thought, hoping it didn't show on my face.
"Well, it's not that bad." Kelly said supportively. "It could be worse, at least you will get your vision back."
We said our thanks to the Duke and made our way back to the apartment.
"So, now what do you want to do?" Sara asked. "I have my CD player... I could let you use it while we go work today."
"No, that's allright, I have my own." Funny I hadn't used it yet. "Can you dig out me... with my... Semisonic and Our Lady Peace Cd's?"
"Excellent choices, mi lady." Sarah said melodramatically.
"This is just like what happened to Sandry... "Erin thought aloud. "She got her vision back."
"Yeah, after a few months."
"No, it was only a few weeks. Don't worry, we'll have you seeing in no time." Kelly said perkily.
And with that, a loud bell called them to their teachers.
I sat there awhile and started listening to some Semisonic and was halfway through 'Made to Last' when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I took off my headphones and turned, where I was met with a kiss. I was so shocked, I didn't say anything at first. "How are you doing?" It was Cleon. Hmm, our first kiss. Too bad, I was too shocked to enjoy it.
"fine, thank you." I told him and then commenced to tell him what Duke Barid had said. "Hey, aren't you supposed to be doing training or whatever it is squires do...?"
"Well, my kind dear overlord decided to let me 'run and go see that nice blind girl'. I think that's how he put it, so I did and came here to see you. I knocked, but you didn't answer..."
"Oh, I had my music on,"
"Okay, umm, well open your hands..."
"Why?" What was he planning to do?
"Because I brought you a present."
I opened my hands to have them filled with a flower, a gardenia. "Mmm, this smells lovely."
There was a knock at the door and Cleon must have gone somewhere because he didn't answer the door.
"Come in, it's open..."
"Have you seen Cleon?" It was Sara. "Lindhall is mad, but not half as mad as the priests... where is he?" "What do you mean..?"
"He's supposed to be in class, and if he happened to be here, Lindhall said he'd excuse him if he came back with me." Sara added the last part loudly.
"All right, all right, I surrender, for a kiss?" he came out.
"A day off, huh." He gave me a kiss (I could almost see Sara's eyebrows raising into her brain) and then left.
As I went to pick up my flower off the table I had dropped it on, I found a ring. Hmm a perfect fit. Could it be another gift from Cleon? I guess I'll have to ask him. I felt it's shape and had to laugh outloud, it had a bejeweled eye on it.
